Does anyone have any experience with these cars? I put a deposit down on a 2008 Cayman S, but I saw a 2006 Cayman S for sale with low kilometers for $58,000 (about $25,000 less than what I'm paying) and I have no problem going used assuming it's reliable :)

Anyone on here driven/owned one?

No big differences between those two years. The big changes come for MY2010. If the used one has the items you are looking for, then that is not a bad idea. It should be reliable though just make sure all the service is documented for peace of mind.

I wasn't able to get the cash ready for it in time, and by the time I had it, the car had sold :(

That's okay, it was only a coupe.

Damn that's a pimping choice for a new ride. Love the Cayman S. C4S works at South Centre Porsche so maybe he'll reply since he's a Porsche fanatic. I don't think there are a lot of changes though.

I would take the 06, take the $25K to get some winter tires, a nice set of 19's for summer, suspension, 3m etc. :hitit:

Yea I'm leaning toward the '06. Going to give him a call tonight. Too bad it snowed- might not be ideal for a test drive.

Also, it's not being driven in winter. I can has a Saab for that :)

search on the forums for the year/model of your Porsche you're looking at. Its a good resource!

No real difference.

2007 got tire pressure monitors as standard
2008 the 'ECO' button was changed to say 'A/C off'

Cheers

just so you know, paying anything over 50K for an 06 Cayman S isnt a good deal. And buying an 08, when the new caymans come with more power, is just wrong.

How does warranty work? Is it a North American warranty?

nbaker00

Yes US porsches have factory warranty in Canada... At least they did a few months ago when I had an 05 cayenne turbo.

I can get a US Cayman S with higher mileage for under $50K no problem .. ( not COP Porsche ) but if Canadian model, with 160,000 km CPO warranty, will be $60K plus.

:)

I dont mind US car at all, as long as with FULL HISTORY, and well kept .. and sell it before warranty expired. (as you can't buy extended warranty)

To be honest, I will wait for the new 2010 Cayman S .. more power, nicer looking, better on gas, and lower price. (more standard features)

:D

Have they released any numbers on the 2010 CAyman S yet? Lower price by how much?

Right now it's $75K msrp + freight/pdi+ a few options easily $90k+. That's too much so the used ones are very enticing!!

C4S: what's service like on Porsche? Every 15,000-20,000kms like Benz/BMW? $300-$500? each service not including brakes/clutch etc. right? haha

The whole point in buying a Porsche is to get it new to go through the whole ownership experience and custom order the car the way you like and go through the European Delivery process which IMO, is the best of any. The thing with Porsche is that, if you pay cash you are able to get a bigger discount right now because of the adjusted American pricing, where as in 06, they did not adjust and drop it by 10k. IMO, right now is a good time to buy a new car if you have extra money around that is liquid. Car dealers are facing a tough month in terms of sales so they are willing to push out any of the 08's that are still on their lots for next to nothing. I would buy brand new if I was the OP.

Maybe, but the prospect of saving $30,000+ is very appealing. I don't care HOW the car is delivered, only that it is in my driveway.

Fair enough, but IMO, the best part of owning a new car is that you know how it's been treated since the beginning. Not to mention, it's when the car performs the best, the tightest. I'm very sensitive when it comes to cars and I can tell in certain cars that it's not as tight as new etc.

Unless it's your friend or you know the owner of the 06 Caymen personally, I would not buy it. You simply don't know how the car was taken care of.

If I was spending $50k on a used car with no possibility of getting an extended warranty, I'd be hesitant too.

Buying a used Japanese import like a Civic and getting a lemon isn't that bad. But if gremlins start coming out of the closet on a porsche, that could get expensive.

its all about research. If you get a PPI done that passes with flying colors, you have very detailed history and records of service (and the car has a clean title), and the car feels and drives solid, and just like new, its not necessarily a bad deal just because its off warranty. From my reading, higher mileage Porsche's have less engine issues because they were driven more (and these cars are meant to be driven). But warranty is pretty key, some aftermarket companies will cover your warranty if the PPI is really good.

:dunno:

Well .. back to the topic, if 2006 CaymanS vs 2008 CaymanS .. then not bad to go for a nice 2006 one with history/service and save ~ $20K plus.

However, if 2010 vs 2006 .. is another story ... we are talking 4 model yr different, newer and better car .. for also just ~$25K different.

Same as 911, a nice local 2006 911S vs a new 2008 911S, ~ $45K different, then go for the 2006 .. however, if compare to 2009, much nicer car, 40 more HP .. 7% better on gas .. then it is a different story. ( $115k for 2009, vs ~ $80K for 2006 used Canadian model)

Isn't it time for Cayenne instead of Cayman Now?? :dunno:
