View Full Version : When do you get bored of your ride?

hypnotoad

Personally, I get bored after about 2-3 years with my vehicles, then it's time for something fresh. So, how long will YOU drive a car for until you are bored with it?

When I bought my 94 civic back in 94, I got bored of it in a few months cause it was gutless and I didnt like red lining it to get any decent power out of it. But it was decent on gas and low maintenance so I kept it until early this year when I finally sold it.

well for me it varies. sometimes I'll get bored of it and then I'll like it again. My last two cars I've had for almost 2.5 years now which is a pretty long stretch for me. looks like I'll be keeping them for awhile longer now because I can't seem to find a suitable replacement that won't break the bank lol

I get bored of the car when I remember how pristine it was 2 years ago and then look at the problems of it now.

What do you mean by "get bored"? Granted I've driven crappy beaters all my life so far, as long as it gets me safely to work 99.9% of the time, is comfortable and has a bumpin stereo, what would I get bored of?

My historical average is 1.75 years per car owned. The biggest problem is driving something else for me. I always think my car is great and then I drive something different and my tune changes almost instantly.

I've had the Magnum for 5 months now and no sign of boredom in sight yet. It's loud, obnoxious, quick, has the ability to go sideways sans e-brake, comfortable for any length trip and really practical.

I am like max_boost I can hate my car one day, then I see it or drive it and remember why I liked it in the first place.

Then 2 weeks later I hate it again.

Hmm, maybe. The thing is that I tend to find things about other cars that I really love.

When I had my 95 TSI AWD I loved the fact that it was turbo AWD, but then I jumped on to my MR2 because it was MR and damn sexy. Then I grabbed the Saab because I love how it looks and wanted something a bit more refined. Now I'm getting a Porsche because I've always wanted a Porsche, but I think I'll KEEP the Saab this time ;)

I tend to drive a vehicle for about a year before I get rid of it.

However, with owning 24 cars in my life, I suppose my average is noticably less than one a year....

My personal theory on this:

1. You need a daily driver that can handle winter, probably a truck or SUV because it would be nice if you could haul things with it.

2. You need a motorcycle, because they are such a blast. Just try not to die.

3. You need a summer toy/weekend driver but it needs to be something that can handle a long drive when you want to rip across the country.

4. The other car that I think everyone needs is a project car, a car that you can make a plan for, think about what modification is next, etc.

I don't think its so much the cars that are boring, its the road system here, using the grid system makes for a boring drive, I'm still liking my STi but I know the fun factor will die off due to nowhere to really use the car, thats why I got something practical, I do believe I would get bored in any car after awhile, even if I had a Ferrari or Lambo, the fun factor would die off as going fast on off ramps gets boring, fast.

I plan on keeping the subaru for quite awhile. When it's paid off I'll either get a #3 or a #4. Thinking #4, something like a muscle car so its ideal for summer and i can always work on it.

same, to save gas here and there i drive my winter beater to work (almost out of town) and when some of these honda fanboys (no offence) come and do the 'smokey nagata flyby' (winter beater is a 93 Teg with a fartcan from previous owner :banghead: so i think they assume i'm part of the rice crew), that's when i wish i was driving my summer car and totally forget about selling it. 3.75 years now i think it is, longest i've ever owned a car (owned 5 so far).

Novelty of a new car wears off in about a month for me.

But as far as getting rid of my cars, it's been financial reasons that I've had to sell most of my cars.

It really depends on the car for me. Certain cars, you will be excited to drive for a long time. The one car I miss is my ex-F430. Then you have cars like my RDX where I was never really excited even when I first picked it up. To me, the car must be fun to drive and have alot of character before I get bored of it. Which is why I still have my Maserati (sentimental reasons)

I get bored from time to time with my old cars. I've had my new one for three months now and I have yet to be bored. With the Civic it was a blast to drive until winter hit, had to sandbag it and what not, made driving boring but at least I didn't rack up kms, mostly drove when needed to- school, work ect. Right when spring hit and I took out the sandbags it was fun again, but driving a civic makes you envious of other cars out there, especially with Calgary and our abundance of nice cars. So I really wanted an upgrade. I'm not driving a BMW or Porsche but it's still fun for me.

I love just cruising around at night driving by glass buildings and looking at the reflection.
