I was looking around on the internet at Blu-ray players and I realized that is a HUGE price range anywhere from 200-700+. Is there really that big of a difference?

Some blu-ray players also scale DVD's to 1080P, and the quality of the scaler usually has a heavy impact on the price. The PS3 is you're best bet for most situations.

What kind of TV do you have? Does your receiver do any scaling? Do you care that the PS3 is a bit louder, uses more power, and has to use its own remote?

Those are all things to consider when choosing a blu-ray player IMO.

I just bought a new samsung 1080P 40' TV. Right now im just using regular cable but I am going to order HD cable from shaw this weekend. The PS3 does sound like a good option, although I would never use it for gaming as I already have a 360.

So when I get shaw HD cable will the cable box affect the quality of the picture greatly as well?

Are you actually going to rent or buy blurays? I think as long as you get profile 2.0 player that has an ethernet connection for future upgrades, your good to go, besides the lense in the ps3 seems to die like they did in the ps2 days, so I wouldn't rely on it for too long

I would rent blu-rays but most likely not buy them. What is a profile 2.0 player? Sorry I have no knowledge about blu-ray or dvd players in general.

Never mind I read about profile 2.0.
