i know lots of guys use just car ramps to do repairs under
here is a picture for reason not to
hard lesson learned, always safety stands, even if on ramps
first one collapsed, causing second one after too as well

I probably would just use a jack-stand anyway with a bunk-ass old ramp like that.

were pretty sturdy ones actually, take a look at the thin ones C-tire sells these days!
problem was over anxious helper cranked on the steering wheel much to far, instead of "slightly"

ouch, hope no one was hurt. I was thinking about buying a pair but I would probably always use them with jack stands just to be sure.

Personally, I like using blocks of wood in place of jack stands, it just feels safer to me.

Well no wonder, look at that horid thing. My dad had the same ones and we promptly got rid of them. They weren't sturdy at all (side to side). A plate on the rear and two thin bars, I'd rather have a solid wall.

Proper ramps FTW

But yes, jack stands at all times is a good habit to get into. Why was your friend cranking the wheel anyways?

There's your problem... you shouldn't be turning the wheels while on the ramps AT ALL, let alone "slightly"

edit: Jebus, that thing doesn't even have mid support.

the only real point is no matter what style ramps, to use safety stands

I have a set of ramps for my car. I always use jackstands with them just incase. It takes all of 10 seconds to throw them under the car, so there really is no reason not to

I used to have a set, but my oldman collapsed them.. I think he tried to use them with either a tractor or truck though.. :nut:

I had mine spit out at me, a sable was on the drive up ramp, and my buddy went to take it off.

Well the foot brake was applied and the car wasnt rolling off the ramp.

So he stomps on the gas, spitting out the ramp at me.
