Let me know, thanks.

I'll be siping my baja claws this week for winter driving

I am in for next weekend....nothing crazy....stock Pathfinder! lol

Took me an hour and 1/2 to sipe 1 and 1/4 tires,.. I'll get them done before the weekend.

Recommended:

Especially for stock height - more prone to getting stuck

Find yourselves some tow points - at least one in the front and one in the back

a couple shackles would be good for those tow points.

A tow strap or decent tow rope (none of those crappy yellow tow ropes with the hooks on the ends.)

I keep my 7ton fishing rope with me :D and I just put a couple eye's on my left-over 25ft of 3/8 steel winch cable

at least 2 ltrs of drinking water,.. toolkit incase something breaks

I usually bring a BBQ along,.. so if I do,.. bring burgers ;)

boots, extra pants, warm jacket.

Dont plan on being home early,.. and no cell service either.

A CB is a good idea otherwise those cheap FRS radios will work - princess auto had a set of cobra FRS's for $30,.. walmart has a cheap CB for $90 - antenna from the flying J for $25

So recap:

need: emergencey tow, tools, communication, food, drink

Good looking truck f150mikey060.

Well, this is shaping up. How about we say meet at the gas station at Bragg Creek Saturday morning at 10am ? I thinking pack a lunch, 5-7 hours out be home for dinner?

Heading to Princess Auto today to try to find a 3"x20' or longer recovery strap.

Another question, how important are tire pressures? Mine are pumped to like 26-30 for street driving.

hey bud. tire pressure is very important when it comes to trails.. drop them under 15 PSI.. i run mine at 10 psi when im out at mclean... then best to stop in a bragg on the way home and air up your tires unless you have one of those handy small compressors...

I might be up for a run otu to mclean next weekend...ive been out there many of times...i have a 97 cherokee with 35's

for you newbs to wheeling... read barmanjays post... everything he said to bring is a awsome idea...

this is what i bring out wheelin when i go

drinks ( pop,water, energy etc)
food, sandwich/ chips.. ( i bring a cooler full of stuff)
WARM CLOTHS ( incase you end up having to stay out there for the night)
CB radio..
Tools.. basic sockets and wrenchs.. DUCT TAPE FTW also
spare tire
Jack all
tow straps
tree saver
shackles
Jerry can of gas
can of Sure start/ Eather ( will explain below)
first aid kit...your head may smash a window..or flying objects in your truck....
Tire plugs
Bead braker( to break bead on my tires)

So the sure start/ eather...

When you use your spare tire and you get a second flat... use the bead braker to break the bead...( you can also drive on the tire for a couple 10 feet and it will break the bead also) then plug the hole with the tire repair kit.. pull out the eather spray inside the tire and along the bead...grab a match and flick the lit match into the tire and it will inflate your tire and pop the beads on...( i know ive done it many of times)

So yeah ill be up for a run next weekend for sure look for my red jeep!!!

Thanks for the posts guys. Looking forward.

I understand you never know what might happen out there but just re iterate, looking for an easy run :) Looks like there could be up to 3-4 stock vehicals so far. But again, great advice, thanks,

Ryan

FYI, just picked up a 3"x30' recovery strap at princess auto on sale for $26 :)

Some of the jeep club is going on Sat,.. they'll be at the mclean store

I think that's a better place to meet,.. the mclean store 9:30-10:30

leave at 10:30 sharp,.. darkness comes at 4pm now

the CJA?....

Im not a fan of going with them... to much policits with them.. always worried about the trails and how you hit the mud try to avoid the puddles...

Foresty is renewable...bah but yeah i wont be rolling out with them...

i will be at the gas station in bragg to meet whom ever there for a easy stocker run for those whom want.. the CJA usually goes on a little higher then stock trail rides...so let me know who still wants to go on a differant trail ride other then with the CJA

Sprockett
11-10-2008, 11:02 PM
I don't know anything about about anyone :D

I am definitely only into a stocker run and by the looks there are others here in stock vehicals too. I'll still be at bragg creek gas at 9:30-10:00am. We can head to MaClean and see who's there by 10:30, sound good? If we decide to go seperate ways, no harm done.

However, can anyone give solid directions to the MaClean creek store? I have never been which is why I suggested Bragg Creek :D

Maybe a google map?

Thanks,
Ryan

easy to get to the store...

drive down 22x from bragg.. going south... hang a right when the road ends... follow it for a while, you will pass a rest stop/ sewer for campers... then drive drive drive and there will be a sign that says fish creek campground ( i think) and it will be a left onto that... follow that road and it will bring you right to the store on the right hand side... pretty easy to get too ill meet you at the bragg creek shell and you can follow me there if you want

woah,.. slow down

the guys aren't part of the club,.. just participate in the forum - like me,.. just a forum member, wanting to go out for a ride, not a club member.

They have specific "official" runs, lead by a member,.. But that can be talked about another time.

fyi,.. there is a sign that says Mclean Creek

11-11-2008, 12:17 AM
so its not a club run then?...if its not then im up for it... i went on a club run a few times with them and it was a bit much... BUT with a few fourm members im up i guess!!!... oh and Barmanjay.. you bringing your bbq? if so ill being some burgars and shit

I might be down for this...What kinda offroading are we talking about though? Dont wanna wreck the paint on my pathy lol...Would we be going through some trees stuff like that?..I would be driving a stock 02 pathy...

5000Audi
11-11-2008, 12:22 AM
most time we go out to mclean we go down trails... if your worried about your paint then i would not go if i was you... lots of trees and branches hanging out...

I'll bring the bbq, as long as it doesn't break during the bumpy ride up ;)

It's always a good thing to keep in the back of your mind is "scratches are imminent"

It eases the mind if you do happen to stumble on a tight space between fallen trees

Ok, so looks like it's less then 30min to MaClean from Bragg Creek. Do we still want to meet there first?

If yes, let's meet at the gas station in Bragg Creek between 9:30-10:00am leave at 10:00am sharp, book it to MaClean by 10:30am and meet up with whoever's there and decide on a trail.

Can we start a roll call on who to expect at Bragg Creek by 10am? That way when we are all there we can leave early.

[Moved to op]

I'll see you guys at the store at mclean

New 31' A/T Tires, just for this occasion! Blue 92 Pathfinder

I may have an extra wheeler truck tagging along.

Could some of us meet in the city somewhere then cruise out to Bragg Creek? I don't know that area.....

Sprockett
11-12-2008, 12:20 AM
Bragg Creek is real simple to get to. Take Glenmore Trail to highway 8. Turn left onto highway 22. You'll end up at a stop sign right in front of the gas station in question. Just google map 'Bragg Creek AB' and you can't miss the gas station.

Applewood SE, Not trying to poke around at any plans here but I heard Mclean creek is very muddy and mud bogging orientated. If so, would Waiparous be a viable option? I would rather do trail driving, easy-technical stuff, mud trails all day rather than pull my vehicle out of the mud all day long...haha

Sprockett
11-13-2008, 12:01 AM
I'm personally not interested in changing plans at this time. Depending how this weekend goes, however, I'm not opposed to checking out waiparous next weekend even.

Are you going to try to meet up with barmanjay or should we expect you at Bragg Creek?

Thanks,
Ryan

There is a guy from the 4Wheeler forum that is interested in joining us but he won't be out there til noon. He said:

I had a great time and met some great people. Special thanks to the more experienced guys leading us out there which were Barmanjay and a couple guys from the calgaryjeep forums. I don't think any of us new guys would had had such an enjoyable time without you three there.

Although these were 'easy' trails, there were some places we went that I would not have guessed any vehical could have...or maybe just would have :) To get there in stock Pathfinders, 4Runners, and Toy Trucks feels good.

My camera's battery is buggered and only lasted a few minutes so I didn't get the pics I wanted. Here at least are a snap of each of the group, 7 trucks one quad. Hopefully I'll get a hold of my buddy's pics soon.

It's all about learning then knowing the capabilities of your vehicles.

We were ready, 2 of us have winches and various tow ropes, chains, straps, cable and extra shackles and etc incase anyone got stuck,.. like I did,.. LOL
(that's what I get for going swimming without testing the water first,.. LOL,.. far exceded my vehicle capabilities,.. I learned :) )

Also you guys got a taste of the technical side of wheeling, learning how to tackle certain obsticles is fun.

It's always nice to have someone guide you along when you can't see where to delicately place your tires.

I'm no pro and constantly learning every time I go out.

Toys are great because you can put on a good sized tire without a lift and still have great clearance and axle articulation.

I am considering trying to go again next weekend Sunday if schedule and weather permits. Are there any more trails in McLean creek that are a similar difficulty? More mud or wet tires would have made some of these trails already quite a bit difficult I presume.

Waiporous is also a possibility? Easier trails from what I have heard but with snow or mud maybe interesting enough? If you guys are interested, someone start a new thread :) I would but I can't commit yet.

Thanks,
Ryan

going there is pointless... 90% of the trails were closed down to trucks, only ATV's n such can go there now.. mclean is prety much the only good place to go now... there are many trails out at mclean that at easy trail rides..then some that are CRAZY lol... i will probably be going out there next weekend for sure.. got a few buddies comming out from saskatoon with their trucks to so i will have about 3 trucks including mine... we will hit up some trails and also do some hard bogs... easy to get to not so eay to drive thought hehe.. so yeah anyone interested in next sunday let me know ill try and work things out with my friends on when we will go out there

I guess if you're not afraid of getting possible scratches on it.... But It was designed to do these things! I look forward in seeing it in action!

The FJ has the perfect stance and wheel base for some of those climbs,.. however, some of the tighter areas will need more negotiating.

If the weather stays like this for part of the week and there is no 'warm' days,.. I would not suggest for the new guys to go out without anyone more experienced.

I've never been to waiprous yet this year,.. but I'm willing to check it out.

Ryan you should definitely try out the fj

how is the 4x system? does it have air/electric lockers

or maybe something similar to the new cherokees with the hydra-loc system?

I have a feeling it's designed to all types of terrain.

Does that apply to every vehicle ?(4x4 of course)
How does it work?

Well the diff's work much like a fwd vehicle,.. as one tire lifts up it just spins and the other wont turn

now add braking pressure to the tire that's off the ground (just like it's on the ground and not spinning) and the other one will start to spin.

Not that good for your drivetrain,.. but in a pinch it might give you the few inches you need.

Just don't be a nut-ball like I saw tonight at the glenmore bogs

I swear I saw skid plate as he was launching over bumps!

I had to pull him out 3 times,.. then I had enough of watching his foolery and left.

I thought I cleaned my truck off REALLY well after spending $10 dollars, well I put it on my hoist and it's still a war zone down there, spent half hour spraying the undercarriage and the white floor turned chunky brown! I don't think mud bogging is my niche either....cleaning the mud sure sucks!

BTW, I got my first trail scar, remember Jay when the skid plate smoked that ledge thing...well it was the A/C condensor support haha...it's bent!

to both whom said wheelin isnt your slice of bread... well you need to get onto some trails that will drop into some deep mud holes.. its alot of fun when you have somthing more then just a stock rig where you cant really so much more then basic trails.. but well some people may like it and some might not.. but for those whom only been once and are judging it off that, try going with someone whom has a bigger rig and can take you down some aggressive trails and into some good muck.. bet you would have some fun!!!...

and only spending 10 bucks? i wish.. last time i was out i was in the car wash for an hour and a half and 26 loonies.. then got yelled at by the owner cuz i left like 4 inches of mud on the floor of the car wash...

anyone planning on going this sunday... i got a group of 4 including me going out... 3 of them are saskies lol... not what style trails we will be going on since i have one of the smaller trucks ... i will let you guys know once i know

Don't get me wrong, I really enjoyed the trip on Saturday and don't think it will be my last. I'm just saying that struggling through mud holes wasn't what I went out there for and after hitting a couple bogs and having the clean the mess I am still thinking that way :)

The rock trails and even the muddy trails on the other hand, I enjoyed alot. I also don't doubt that any motorsport in any well prepared vehicle is much more enjoyable, but on the other hand, finding the limits of your own vehical is what most of us are out there for.

I am still interested in a Sunday trip but am still worried about biting off more then I can chew. Sounds like your crew will be itching for more difficult trails then I can handle but keep us posted.

Vic, does that mean you are not into another trip in next couple weeks?

Thanks,
Ryan
