Some nice driving. Looks like he smoked the rear bumper into the concrete block at about the 2:20 mark though.

Looks like some wood planks on closer inspection.

nuts for sure...That hangar looks fun. I've had the pleasure of doing donuts in a car in an abandoned building back home and concrete in hangars and buildings is damn slippery compared to pave....it's sooo much fun though.

what do you expect? we do not have the same amount of people or sponsorship of other countries. he did pretty good for going down there with what is basically a street car.

but next year drifting out west is stepping it up to a whole new level and it will be ran like any other "professional" (for canada) motor sport

competitor licenses, full list of safety equipment, etc

Cool video. But I don't really see how this makes him a great driver.

Block is a good driver (because of his rally experience), but shit like this really doesn't take much skill if you know what you're doing at all, especially in a 530hp subie.

Anyway, cool vid, but there are a shitload of people even on this forum that could do that if you give em a 300 foot wide runway, lol. Kinda lame too they call this gymkhana....lol real gymkhana is like 60km/h tops.

Gymkhana is just automotive figure skating (More so than drifting). The available size of the track dictates the speed of the event, there is no max speed limit. This track was definitely easier than others that I've seen but it's still the same premise...

no you dont, cuz if you did you and HE couldnt do 90% of the stunts he just did.

like another member said, its not difficult to preform those stunts when you have 530hp and AWD, key word is AWD!

have any of you guys tried to drift in the winter with a RWD car and then got into a AWD car and tried to drift? you will find it a hundered times easier to do with the AWD car then the RWD car.

so that explanes the crazyness of the video.

canadianskyline
11-12-2008, 12:20 PM
I don't really agree with that Moe Man. Sure AWD cars are almost impossible to loop out, but I wouldn't necessarily call them easier to drift.

Mclaren - lay off man, you should be happy I'm pretty much denouncing drifting saying that pretty much anyone who's at home behind the wheel of a awd or rwd car could do this.

You'll probably turn that around on me too though. I'm assuming you must have a lot of track experience and are a highly skilled driver. Or maybe just a keyboard racer?

While I loved the video, I hope we all realize that this was a PRODUCED VIDEO and was not just a single continuous shot. There was likely dozens, if not hundreds, of shots edited together to create this and that is why there is only "5 seconds" of no smoke.

He smokes that wood plank/concrete barrier and in the next shot there is no damage. You can also see near the end that on the entrance shot to the orange/white barrier donut, he overshoots it and would have hit the wall, but it cuts to another angle where he does make it.

If Hollywood could only make chase scenes as good look and SOUNDING as this.....

Ronin. Nuff said .

But ya, what most people don't realize is that car setup plays a HUGE role in what you can do with a car. Take any stock AWD or RWD car to go drifting and you're not gonna get the extreme angles that you can get with a car setup to do just that.

Try drifting a stock STI in the dry. It's not easy to hold it sideways. Just grips and brings the tail back in.

Even like rage2 mention that the car in the video is completely different than a stock STI, you still need mad skillz to do stuff like that. :)
