Need help with letter of interest

I am applying for my masters (graduate school) and the university requires a letter of interest. The letter is to state my reasons for wishing to pursue graduate studies in social work at York University. I also have to identify my areas of practice and my research interests.

I have never written one of these before and was wondering if anybody with experience could give me some pointers on how to write. Also, if anybody has a sample of one or knows where I can find one please let me know.
