For those of you who travel for work, are you currently setup with a per diem? If so, how much is it?

Not a per diem, but we can expense our meals back to the company. Capped at $75/day before taxes and tip.

When working in Calgary it's $20 max for lunch and I must provide a receipt. No breakfast or lunch allowances unless it's with a customer.

When traveling out of town for work, it's $175 max for the entire day. Receipts must be provided for everything.

Here is a question for your guys, have any of you been able to expense personal entertainment while out of town on work?

If I'm out of town for work during a weekend, I have no problem putting through a move, show, hockey game etc.

If it's during the week and I wouldn't normally do that type of activity, then I wouldn't put it through.

My attitude is, if I'm being inconvenienced to travel for work, I'm not going to deny myself anything that I would normally do when I'm at home. At the same time, I never take advantage of my expenses and be greedy.

I wish I was like pacman and could get that kind of perk. I am SOL with stuff like that.

MAYBE a gym pass if the hotel doesnt have one, that is about it.

$2.75/hour ($66/day)

That's in Canadian $ if in Canada, and is the same rate in the states, but in US$. No receipts needed.

$0.33 /KM if using your own vehicle, which is rarely needed.

Even though the option is there, it's something I really never use. Some of the people I work with manage to spend their $20 every day for lunch and always seem to get close to their $175 out of town max.

I'm never remotely close to using up the per diem. At my old company, they used to give $10/day for lunch and you would get the full amount regardless of whether you spent the money or not. I used to love that system as I would pack a lunch every day and pocket the per diem money.

Ahhhh.... see there is the difference. We are on base per diem also so I get $40.00 a day regardless of if and what I eat.

Problem is a few of the towns I work in are university towns that I have buddies in so I usually go to the bar with them and spend $100 at the bar, then $15 at hangover denny's, and $25 on pub lunch.

So it usually costs me money to go out of town :(

When I worked on the movie set it was $75 per day plus all your meals were on the set and the hotel was paid for, as well we just filled up on the production account in town.

For the longest time I thought 'Per Diem' ment lottery LOL!

$75 a day for food regardless of whether you use it or not. Expense all parking, rentals, gas, air travel, hotels, etc.

If you take a client to lunch/dinner, expense it all.

When working out of town $.47 /km if using my own vehicle. $0/km if rental is provided (they pay gas).

$150/day living allowance (they pay for my hotel, the $150 is more of a perk for having to be out of town)

I love life on the road, just wish they sent me out more often.

^ there is no minimum, just a maximum where after it becomes taxable.
