So my buddy owns a 03 protege his tranny is causing problems whats the rough cost of a new one someone said $1500-2500 he only bought his car for 8000 is it worth it

Had mine replaced at a tranny shop... cost me 3000 with fluids and shop materials. A tranny from a wrecker is about 700, but you don't know if you're installing a POS.

yeah, my friend has the same car and the same problem.. actually, mazda fixed it once, but it's happened again.. imo it was crappy worksmenship to begin with. He hasn't fixed it yet, he said he'l drive it till it gives him more problems...

well first off is this a mtx or atx.
Secondly, he's got to keep in mind.... 8000-2500 equals 5500

if he wants to sell it broken it won't even go for much.
It's pretty shitty but he my as well fix it himself, get a used one or get someone else to.

it is a AUTO so im assuming the transmission will cost more?

Call around at some of the jdm shops. You might be able to find an auto transmission leftover from a previous swap for cheap.

Try car-part.com too. I picked up a good GSR transmission from there before for under $1000.

ebay has them for 2-400 - might be worth looking into
