Hello Beyond,

Im hoping to get some advice.
Its my dads birthday tomorrow, he's turning 49.
And I have absolutely no idea what to get him.
In the past its been tools and fishing stuff, but now he does not need anymore of that as he's got plenty.

Anyone got any good ideas? Im a little lost right now.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks :)

Depends on what kind of dad he is. My dad's birthday just passed and he's been SOOOO busy with work lately, no time to himself. So I went out and got a popcorn bucket (like the ones they give out at the movie theatre) and stuffed it full of my dad's favorite snacks. Inside the card I included a gift card for blockbuster so he could treat himself to a night of vegging out on the couch and doing nothing. He loved it, but my dad enjoys his time at home.

If he's a bit more adventerous, check out the Banff Adventures website. There's tons of neat ideas for cool activites there, and they do gift cards for all of them. They have a kiosk in Chinook as well, but the website is easiest to get an idea of the things they can provide. Good luck!

That's actually a pretty cool idea.

You may want something more sincere, but my dad has specific tastes and is tough to buy for that most of the gifts and presents that have just ended up collecting dust. I know it may seem insincere, but for someone like that, a gift card may just be the best way to go, I know I usually just appreciate a gift card more than someone stabbing in the dark at buying something I might like.

You can even take him out for lunch/dinner and then to whatever store he like to shop at and buy him something with the gift card - it makes it a little more personal.

Have a night out with him with any siblings, just a family night where you pay for everything, drive him around or whatever.

Thanks for all the great ideas.
Hes really not a picky guy, and whatever i get him i know he'll appreciate.

I just like to get memorable gifts.

The scotch idea is pretty good, ill look into that.

How about a surprise limo ride, to a nice restraurant somewhere. As in Quincy's, The Vintage Chophouse or the Calgary tower/Sky 360?

Perhaps if everybody is in the limo already, then just you or someone else says "I have someone that wants to meet you", as he first spots the limo and is escorted towards it, that would be pretty cool for him at least. Wouldn't cost too much if everybody pays their own way, and their portion of the limo ride. :dunno:

maybe one of those digital photo frames? where you just put on a bunch of pictures and it does a slideshow all day and night.

If you have siblings, maybe fill it with childhood pictures and such. Although it might seem more like a "mom" gift. haha.

if he smokes and drinks, maybe a nice cigar + bottle of wine?

Take him to the shooting range http://theshootingedge.com/

Let him blow off some steam (i.e. so you and sibling don't get beats), dinner, then take him to the strippers. Cuz really all he wants to do is spend time with his little girl, but this way you'll both get ur rocks off, AND, they do have sovereign keychains and posters at those places I heard.

I :dunno: all my dad says to me is buy whatever, put it on the visa  and all I do is tell my mom to sign my name on the card. My family works a little diff than most.

I usually get my dad a bottle of scotch and a gift card for a golf store, or take him golfing. Helps that his birthday is in August.

Shooting range is a good idea though! I might have to steal that.

Just some ideas:

GPS, Pocket Knife, Torque Wrenches, LED Flashlight, Swiss watch, Fountain Pen, Electric R/C Plane, Car Parts, BluRay Player.

Spyderco and Benchmade make awesome pocket knives. Fenix has some very bright LED flashlights that come in handy.
