Alright, so there has been interest for another 4WD excursion and I am wondering who is all interested in coming? I am thinking Mclean creek again unless anyone has any better ideas. Meeting spot? Lets say the Shell gas station in Bragg Creek at the wierd intersection?

Lets discuss!

Meeting Time: 10:00am

PS Barmanjay, if you could make it then great! Would be nice to have someone lead the newbies along!

I think i'll be up for a couple hours of some easy stuff

I'll be bringing 2 of my kids and they have a birthday to be at by 3:30 no later :D

so a good few hours of wheelin would be fine,.. just real easy stuff,.. maybe we'll see how far we can get to elbow falls?

I'm in guys, hopefully bringing the wife this time too. 10am Bragg Creek sounds good for me as does a short run. I'll ask buddy in the Commache as well. McLean is closing soon Ryan, you should come :)

Took the truck by my fabicator firend's tonight. Had the hitch glowing red with the torch but that receiver is NOT moving. After 30min in the cold buggering with it, we cut it off. Hopefully I'll get a Clevis pin in the mean time just in case. Installing 1.25" spring spacers to get rid of the sag on Sat :)

5G_celica Refer to the 1st stocker run thread, all the stuff you need-nice to have is outlined in there. Tow rope, warm clothes, food, water, boots

Wow, I'll have to book mark this site as it took me all over to sign and log in.

You need to have things on your truck as well as in your truck. Tow points front and rear along with a full size spare anything after that is a bonus (skid plates for one). Inside truck you need lunch, warm clothes and tools to change a tire. Tow strap and anything else is a bonus. Begginer Stock Runs rarely require alot of gear as the trails should be easy then as you learn what works or is needed more gear is aquired. Mclean has good trails to learn on provided you can navigate around the mudpits (there are some bad ones).

Best advice I can give (I use this myself alot) is when on trail runs size up other rigs in your group and find one that is similar in size, height and tire size. Once you have a found a vehicle comparable to yours follow him/her to observe the line he/she takes, it helps alot when running unfamilar obsticals.

I will be there in a stock '04 grand cherokee, i have NEVER been wheeling but really want to do, but same goes for me, EASY trail, and a couple hours, nothing to crazy long, and my buddy will also be there in his stock cherokee as well.

So It's Official then! Shell gas station in Bragg Creek at 10am!

The Falls does not take very long to do but if everyone wants a short day then it works. We can do lunch on the beach there and maybe have a fire take a longer lunch then head out.

Coming out of the trail head from the Falls.

Hey Tarzan, good to see on here and look forward to meeting you tomorrow. Jay, are you bringing the BBQ for lunch again (at least for the grill ;) ) if so I'll pickup some smokies or something tonight.

I installed the spacers and took off the rear bumper today in preperation for a custom built one I'm making. The plus is, no more rear sag and better departure angle. The bad news is the bumper and mudflaps were holding the quarter together. Cancer and holes everywhere :)

I mentioned this run at the end of day and I thought maybe this would motivate a few people to come out for a great cause.

That was yet another great trip!! I kind of almost saw my life flash before my eyes with that tow rope snapping. Now it's time to buy a good one! I guess sometimes you have to learn the hardway first!

Trail damage: Scratches all long both sides of my truck....it's only the beginning!

And while we were bbq'ing smoking for lunch by the river, a pair of very friendly wild birds were eating right out of our hands

Just by fluke I saw one looking at me 5 ft away up in a tree, so I put up my hand with a piece of bread and it came right down for it.

a few vids of it

the kids absolutely loved it - filled them up with 2 hamburger buns,.. LOL

Below are some photos and a limited vid I put together of some of our antics :)

[edit] oops here's the link to the full album: http://s164.photobucket.com/albums/u24/ryansclarkcar/McLeanV2/

Damage? Checked out the hubs and drained the diff tonight with Celica-st165's help. Good news, the hubs are fine, bad news is that the metal chunks falling out with the oil from the front diff confirms where the problem lies :( Kind of disappointed that I could break a diff turning a 180 in 4wd on the rocks next to the river...got me rethinking the 33s.

I still have to get used to this rake, before the back was sagging a little and now it's sitting higher! Why can't there be a happy medium! haha

eek,.. no more 4x with the finder till the front diff is fixed?

CelicaST-162

So, I installed the rear spacers, man those were a PITA! That front diff wont be hard to do, 1 day maybe 2 tops!

Wow looks like a great trip... I cant believe the runner fell though.. that would be sooo scary .

Sprockett
11-25-2008, 12:07 AM
You mean the runner, but yes. On the bright side, I already found a diff and shoul dhave it by Wednesday. Hopefully it'll go in this weekend :)

The rake din look so bad. Think of the departure angle ;)

barmanjay

Oooh the runner,.. crap,.. that's shitty about the dif,.. I thought they were stronger?

That hole was deeper than we thought

The ice in some spots was about 4" thick, just there I think is was closer to 3"

It was really hard to pull him out,.. we ended up pulling him through the hole,,.. I couldn't get him over the ice coming backwards,.. and before getting him out forward, we had to break up all the ice in front so it wouldn't dam up.

While winching back, you can see what looks like my winch cable snap, is actually my extra 25' - 3/8 steel cable from my winch and the eye pulled itself out while pulling with the winch.
Me thinks I should add a couple tack welds to the cable next time.

Was a good time, you should've come with us instead of skiing, Mclean closes on the 1st.

But theres always easy stuff at waiprous, which I've never been.

Yeah, there were a couple of great easy/medium trails and ofcourse the snow/ice made them a little more difficult.

But nothing our rigs couldn't handle

SAS it! man that looks like fun, im going to have to come down to cow town next spring after I get some more work done to my 'runner.

Sprockett
11-25-2008, 02:04 PM
I'm not too serious a wheeler. I've only had the 4Runner a couple months and have only been out on the trails a couple times. SAS is a little too serious for me. I already have too many hobbies (money sinks) to go too crazy on this one yet.

If I did get serious about anything I'd actually sell this thing and go buy a 95 sr5 with E-Locker or some other built rig :)

The bushes stuck out pretty far on this trail, added lots of character to my rig! :D
