Yea. Avg for that tank was something like 38mpg.

Buuuuuuuuuuut it's beyond, so I herein automatically commit to losing the inevitable e-argument that's about to take place. I know what mileage I get, and I'm okay with it :)

Yeah that's what I was wondering... they jump up when you're coasting, but when you start driving normally to maintain your speed, it will inevitably drop.

Haha well then, maybe you just reset your meter, put the car in neutral and grabbed the pic while coasting... :D

I have heard though, that since Calgary has relatively wide open main arteries (when there is little traffic) and you can really go from one end of the city to the other with little stopping and at close to highway speeds (think of going from the NW to Mackenzie Town: Crowchild-Glenmore-Deerfoot the whole way). I wouldn't be surprised if you are getting highway like mileage in the city if you aren't driving in a whole lot of stop and go in rush hour. This is actually one of the reasons you don't see many hybrid taxis in Calgary, they only become economical if a lot of your driving is stop and go.

Regardless, it's senseless to argue about this, unless you take everyone for a drive, there's really no way to prove or disprove your claim. So I'll just have to take your word for it.

Sorry about the thread hijack!

i was getting 44-46 mpg before i had to start warming up my crx every morning, and i know my trip meter is correct and so is my math...now im getting like 38 mpg with warmups =( pooo. My buddy gets 1200km to a tank on his old 1982 mazda b2200 diesel....and its like a 45 gallon tank. Its pretty sad that they are releasing cars that get 35 mpg and using it as advertising...jesus christ things should be doing wayyy better by now. theres a guy in the states with a CRX HF, and he dropped in a VX civic engine, and he gets like 60-70 mpg if he drives it nicely, theres a website, google it.

I drove a Prius for a week, beat the shit out of it for 1/2 the week and could only manage a low of 38mpg :(. When driving it easy, I was getting 55mpg no probs. When I drove it like it's designed for (off the line REALLY slow so engine never kicks in on accel) I was getting a whopping 70mpg.

Saabs have a 16.4US gallon tank capacity. 47mpg would net you close to 1250km on a tank.

What trim? how do you drive it? I shift at 3k every time, i accelerate very slowly, i check my tire pressure once a week, keep it at 38 psi, i try to take corners fast without braking so i dont have to accelerate more when i come out of it. I kind of follow what the hypermilers say, but not to the extremes they do.

So the EPA is wrong with it's estimation of 19MPG city and 28MPG highway? Most people struggle to just get the EPA estimates.

Unless I see it, I find it very hard to believe that you are getting that kind of milage from a Saab 9-3. From a CRX or Civic I might be able to believe it, but a turbo Saab??? A base Cobalt can't even get this mileage.

Sorry I know what I wrote came out as sarcastic but I just think that this whole "hypermiling" thing has gone WAY too far.
My car on a highway without any stops gets about 27 MPG, on the streets doing everything Jeff mentioned, I consistently get 22MPG. My car has about 10G fuel capacity. That's MAXIMUM of 5MPG increase (which I will never get). So let's say 25 is reasonable, and that's an increase of about 3MPG making it 30 miles or about 50km. That's if I drive like I'm done with life and ready to die. It costs about an extra $5 if I average the fuel costs to be $1/L per tank. Honestly, to me, it's fucking idiotic to drive like a retard, preventing braking, not downshifting, not slowing down for turns, not accelerating, etc. to save $5 a week. Just eat 1 less big mac or smoke a couple less cigarettes a day. Man.

That's almost as bad as those people who drive half way around the city because the Shell by their house sells gas at $1.00/L and the Centex in Forest Lawn has it for $0.985.

I agree. Every car is different. My sr20 for example. I would get 500+km to every tank, IF i stayed out of boost, and accelerated normally. If i boosted even a little bit, and pushed it once or twice, i would get 350-400km. BIG difference.

Even my CRX. If i shift at 3000 rpm, and am gentle accelerating, i get around 430k to 30 litres as ive figured (warmups dont forget, 15 mins every morning). If i drive hard, and accelerate hard, i get like 350, 380, so quite a difference. Dont forget too, if you save 5.00 every fill, it adds up over a couple of months to be like 30$, and over a year, even more. Its like changing over to flourescent lights in your house, you save money in the LONG RUN. I dont agree however with driving like a moron and take corners with squeeling tires to save a buck. I save money on gas where its reasonable.

Haha, if you want good fuel economy (without going to a hybrid of course) get an older car.

My 92 protege gets ~37mpg in the city and I drive the crap out of it :D It's the BP18 engine man, I swear. My '92 Escort GT was getting close to 35mpg as well and I bagged it every day.

its not bad spelling at all.

What happened is when you were delivering mail at the office you overheard one of the Suits use a word in a sentence that sounded like contest, but meant something else, therefore you decided you wanted to be just like a suit (short of driving a BMW of course) and went out on a limb and used the incorrect word at the incorrect time not knowing you sounded rediculars!

Haha you're such a tool dude. I don't think there's anyone on this site that has a problem "confronting me" since as I'm far from "immortal". Hell, max_boost has no problem ripping on me (being one of the OG's you referenced), so I don't know what you're talking about.

You're more than welcome to continue talking out of your ass though. And hey, you don't seem to like me but don't worry, I like you just fine :) ;)

I tried hypermilling my S2000. Never shifted over 3000rpm, maintained speed through corners and anticipated stops. I got 9L/100km (26mpg). Now I normally get 11L/100km (21mpg) with lots of redlines and brakes.

But that doesn't even matter. I find cars are excellent at stress relief and when I hyper mill I get more stressed out than taking the transit.

The last time I tried hypermiling, I got pulled over by a cop for taking the turn too fast and ended up with a ticket :banghead:

Diesels(turbo-diesels) are incredible ... by my calculations, that car get's 3.75L / 100 KM

My buddy gets 1200km to a tank on his old 1982 mazda b2200 diesel....and its like a 45 gallon [read : liter] tank.[/B]

That is good - 6.3 L / 100Km

My 00 Protege used to get 8 inside the city / with my current american I get 12L/100Km

2002-2003 ECU has a lot less fuel 1000-6000 rpm than early 00-01, and a bit more timing. So to get the car moving at the same speed you will rev 3500rpm while I have to go 4000rpm. Quite a difference in fuel consumption, and more pep in the lower regions of the band. 6000-9000 is practically the same. That is why a lot of people swap their 00-01 ECUs for the 02-03. I am trying to find a 02-03 ECU as well.
