I need to rent a van to drive down to edmonton monday, a bunch of us are going so none of my cars will fit all, and the gas mileage on the jimmy and rx7 is disgusting. Do i have to be 21 to rent one? if so can my dad rent one and i drive it? how does it work. Thanks

why don't you find a cousin or friend or something who has one and borrow it then leave the Jimmy with them till you get back

ya but there is always a risk of getting in an accident, either u hitting someone or someone hitting you.

that is the main concern right there.

They make you sign a legal waiver that deny's responsibility if anyone except the person who rented the vehicle get's into an accident.

This means that if you hit someone, your dad is responsible for paying the body shops, medical bills, and settlements from his own pocket.

i cant remember which one... Budget I think, is the only one that will let under 21 drivers rent cars... I remember because I rented when I was 20 from them... I think there was an extra fee though

Hertz rents to those who are 18 at some of their airport locations. I believe Enterprise also rents to those who are 18, but a surcharge applies.

If you call around, some companies still rent to "kids" who are only 18. But be prepared to pay a premium as soon as you tell them that you're under 25.

As long as you have a credit card they should let you rent..... but they may charge you a higher fee because of of the "risks" involved in letting a younger driver rent.

I'm going to go with 25 as well. That is what I have been told in the past.

Most places only rent to 25 now. IF you are under 25 you can still rent but it's really expensive. I think National will let you rent under 25, but it's pretty much double the price.

BUDGET, they have a special on cargo vans for 19.99 a day. I may rent one as i have to pick something up from calgary..

oh yea, pull out the gauge cluster so you dont have to pay for all the extra kms you put on it:thumbsup:

i was told that Hertz rents to 18+

all other places are 21+

if u are under 25, u have to pay an extra under age fee
i think the fee is about 20 dollars a day
