Led ftw, just so mysterious looking,.. except the small indoor white leds,.. when you move them around,.. they have almost a strobe effect on your eyes,.. kinda makes you feel dizzy.

We have almost all led's except for a few strands of older filament(sp?) strings

Costco - $15 for 3 boxes of 35pc blue

LED, lower power consumption...

LED. It's the future, yo.

LED because I'm a cheap ass.

But light quality is too artificial to me. Good old incandescent bulbs still give out more "warmth" and nostalgic feel. LED maker got to work on that.

LED, for durability reasons. Those "classic" filament bulb strings always end up with a few not working. LED should last longer and be more resistant to damage.

:werd: to the comment about the white LED's looking like they strobe.

I thought it was just me loosing my f'ing mind

The multi-color ones from Costco do it as well. Freaks me out every time.

LED all the way. I don't think I'd go back to classic after having LED.

I hate the fact that the "white" LED mini lights are actually light blue.

I prefer the warmer yellow incandescent glow of conventional lights.

do you have these? I was wondering how well they worked

We have them just not put up yet. They look like the regular LED's. We bought the white. Hoping to get them up on Friday.

They are a 32 ft strand with mounting for either wall or stake for the panel.

They are around $30.00

Probably not very well if anything like my solar garden light.

If 2 AA NiCd and a solar panel size of my palm can't even keep 5 leds lid up for 2 hrs, what size of panel and battery do you need to keep each of the 30 Leds going all night?

I dont have any up, I like my power bill nice and cheap.

I think they are bad for the environment, might look pretty, but really.. waste of resources!!

I would like to hear about the solar lights tho ^^

I had over 10 strings connected together and according to my Kill-A-Watt meter it only used 24 watts. That's less than dim light bulb.

Please tell me you ONLY use public transit and nothing else. Because by your logic, you should not own or operate a car because it's a waste of resources.

Good for you David Suzuki.

Perhaps you should stop posting and read a book. Your non-solar powered computer is killing Mother Nature.

I laugh at the notion that christmas lights are a huge use of energy.

You need 100 lights on 24 hours a day to equal an average computer on 24 hours a day.

Doubt anyone has that.

Not to mention leaving your standby TV plugged in using 10 lights worth of power.

Dont forget the dishwasher that uses 500 to 1000 LED lights worth of power.

Mine are approaching 20 years.

The method to prevent fading is call "stop being lazy and take down your lights and store them in a box by end of January"

I bought the Noma LED solar for my back fence along the ravine. $25 for 32ft seemed good at the time. Unless you are closer than 25ft from them, you can barely see them on. Avoid.

I just put my killawatt on my pc.. I'll let you know how it works out.. and yes, I have a fairly average computer. 2 LCDs, speakers.. the unit itself.. we'll see.

Also have the tv on standby, and the dishwasher.. I'll check those later.

Updated.. the PC used 3.3 KWh over a 24 hour period. With a max usage of 248W and 2.09A.

Doing the strings of LED lights next..

i went for the oldskool c9/7 watt lights in clear.
i think they are brighter than the LED's.
the comparable LED sets are less for electricity but about 3 times the cost upfront anyway.
