Anyone have any experience with this class? The stories i hear are either good or terrible.

Also whats the project like? I don't know anyone else taking the class so I'll probably just do it alone. How hard would it be to do it solo?

It's not really that tough a course, unless you get stuck with a hardass for a TA.

My final report ended up being about 35ish pages IIRC. Prof is also verrrry relaxed on deadlines, almost everything gets extended and the quizzes are a joke.

Frankly if I were to do it again I'd go in a group. Why do all that work yourself when posting on the course discussion board or emailing the prof can get you set up with a group to cut the effort required in half or more... Theres almost definately others in the course who don't know anyone taking it.

Almost exclusively based on your TA...if you get a hard marker for your TA you're in trouble, if you get an easy on you're golden.

Which marking group are you guys in? She should have put it up on the blackboard. If were in different ones and our ta sucks we and always group up for the project and get switched away from the shitty TA :D

I believe if you email her before the class starts with the specific names of people you would like to be partnered with, she will move you all into the same group.

I took this last semester and didn't have a group. Still really easy, basic writing nothing hard about it. The final report isn't too hard, they will usually give you a sample project, I just followed that and got an A.

If you do get a group going, take turns writing the quizzes first, after you write the quiz you can look at the answers, so this will guarantee your buddies 100%

Make sure you do not get gina grosenick as a marker. It seems that no matter how good I did an assignment, I was never able to get higher than a B+, and I am actually a decent writer when I put my mind to it.

When they post up the course outline or what the Final project let me know. I'd be interested to see if it is the same type of assignment.

Im wondering, if there are huge mark differences between each TA don't they just average it out?

because I remember than happening for one of my physics course labs. One TA was a hard marker and the other was a slack marker, so i believe they curved it or something because my lab mark went up.

If anyone wants to buy the textbook off me (Graves and Graves, you need it for the quizzes), I'll give it to you for 25 bucks. I think it goes for like 44.99 brand new at the bookstore. It is in mint condition with no highlighting or anything!

Took this course last year online with Andre and Concetta, ended up with B+. Ive found that Concetta is a hard marker, very particular about word choices, proper use of connotations, sentence structure, commas, semi/colons...which is understandable because COMS 363 is about THAT. But the biggest thing is get a RESPONSIBLE partner/group, someone/people that would do their part, and would not leave all the work up to you...I worked with someone who left me with most of the work, hence the B+!

Other than that, pretty straightforward course, take advantage of all the resources at school (ie effective writing..etc). Andre would even check all of your work, point out your mistakes and replace it with right answers/words. Goodluck!
