For the first time ever Calgary BMW is participating in (our sister store) Calgary Honda's $5 Pre Owned Vehicle Sales Event this Saturday, December 6th.

There will be over 100 Pre Owned Vehicles available for sale and as promised some will be sold for as little as Five dollars!

Calgary BMW and The BMW Gallery will be bringing a selection of Pre Owned vehicles to this event and will be pleased to provide you with an opportunity to purchase or lease a Pre Owned Vehicle at this one day only special purchase pricing.

We will have a team of BMW Pre-Owned brand and BMW finance specialists on hand at Calgary Honda to assist you through this exciting event.

Please see the attached file for more details on the location and hours.

Looking forward to seeing you on Saturday!

Is that the crowd you want at a BMW dealership?

calgary bmw and the gallery is bringing cars down to Calgary Honda for the sale, therefore there will be none of he $5 shopping crowd at any of the bmw dealers.

I used to work with a guy many years ago that bought an absolutely mint condition Renault "Le Car" for $5 at one of these sales. Still drives it today probably.

.... but those were the days before these sales really caught on, now thats almost impossible.

Previous beyond members take on this http://forums.beyond.ca/st/201487/boxing-day-at-calgary-honda/

but with BMW there it's going to be interesting to see what they have for $5, most likely more pos, it's funny to see how many people are expecting to find a diamond in the ruff at one of these things thou:rolleyes:

 There is never really a car for sale at that price. I remember deals like this when i worked at a Ford dealership. At least at Ford they were advertising a $100 car. It's just a cheap gimick to get people interested in going to the sale. It does sound like desperation is kicking in to get rid of some of the cars that haven't been selling though.

Often times they get you to "register" for the sale. You fill out the info, they check out your info and see what they can approve you for. (They don't tell you this) While i sales man shows you around, they will later tell you that at the end of the sale, they will draw a name from all the people that have registered for the sale and they will have the option of buying some pos car for $5, or $100 or whatever they are promoting.

That thing must be a collector's item, there weren't too many that made it across the pond.

Calgary Honda already did this a few months ago. The way it works, if I recall, cars sell at 5$ plus gst and admin fees. But they do not sell the car till the end of the day. so If I show up at 9 am and offer $5 on the car if someone offers $10 by 2pm they will sell it for 10 instead of my offer at 5.
Someone correct me if I am wrong...

think about it guys, in the add they explane that a team of finance guys will be there.

why do you need a team of finance people when the car is $5, who is going to finance 5 bux.

beyond is smarter than this

I think everyone knows it's a scam. But did not expect BMW will attach their name to it.

they drop the price every hour on all the preowned cars till the end of the day where there is a possible car for 5 bucks. we get cars at honda all the time that we wholesale for 100 to employees. those are usually the cars that are sold for 5 bucks at the end of the day.

w_man
12-04-2008, 07:48 PM
^^ exactly. the add says they will drop the price until it reaches 5 bucks. If someone makes an offer at a higher price, it may never reach 5 bucks.

they also say the cars which MAY drop to 5 bucks will be parked in the front so you can go see in advance what they are.

I would have gone to see this atleast if i needed a new car ... would be interested to hear some feedback from anyone who goes there...?!?!

being worked at calgary honda. this is how it works.

its an auction setting, the put the prices of the cars on the window, and they slash prices every hour/half hour.

the trick with the 5 dollar car sale is

they take a couple of vehicles from their wholesale lot and at the start of the day list it for 1000 or a little more. and at the end of the day if their still not going they go for $5

It's just a scam. I don't know where they find the cars from, but they couldn't have come from their used car lot. They have one or two complete junkers, and the rest of the cars are way overpriced.

Wasted an hour of my life checking it out a couple years ago.

I had one as my very first car when I was 16-17. I'd call it anything but a collector's item...

Also I can see a lot of dealers resorting to stuff like this in the near future. We've been pretty sheltered from this economic crisis in Calgary but slowly it's creeping in. I can't see any dealers that won't be affected in the next few months...

Really has nothing to do with any sort of "economic crisis" just a quick and easy way to get rid of junker trade ins and get some extra traffic through the doors. This tactic has been used for decades. :)

Oh I know i've seen this type of sale at Calgary Honda for years now. I am just saying that I think that new sales will start to suffer in Calgary fairly soon unless things turn around.

I don't ever remember BMW having to offer 10K+ in discounts to clear out inventory. Mazda is giving 4K off their 08 3s to try to clear them. Mercedes is giving some huge discounts too on some of their 08s too. Time will tell though maybe I am wrong.

How are things at Lexus these days?

Guess you guys are not as bad as us yet. Buy one and get one free or a second car for a dollar

Why can't the sales professionals on 3rd Ave do something similar.

  I can't believe people actually believe in this type of scam or even consider giving the dealers money, I guess that old saying is actually true "One man's trash is another man's treasure"

Ok gotcha.. the US/Canadian dollar fiasco plagued bmw for a very long time. Now that it's over the economy slowed down which didnt improve the situation. That's why you're seeing these discounts, it was one bad event followed by another. As for Lexus things are still going strong. We will have inventory issues soon however (as in not enough), the RX's are almost all sold out for 2009 which means that we wont have any to sell for Jan and Feb until the 2010 arrives. We have 4 08's left, theyre all IS350.

Are there any incentives being offered on them?

Other than a subvented interest rate of 3.2 I think thats it (a new one is 3.9). I'll have a look today when I get in.
