Hey Guys, I have to buy some US money for a vacation I'm taking and noticed that its sitting at 1.300 right now for 1.0 US. Anyone here follow the trend at all, I'm leaving in 2 weeks so not sure if I should wait a couple weeks or buy right now before it gets worse. I asked the bank teller and she said it will get better in the next 2 weeks....I didn't really believe her though!

Thanks for any advice!

$1.30?? It's been right around $1.20 for a while now and hasn't really changed. Where are you paying $1.30?

Where are you paying $1.20??

The rate is approx. $1.25 IIRC...so most exchange rates at the bank will be approx. $1.27-$1.30.

OP you can try CalForex downtown...from what I have heard they generally have good exchange rates...I also think there is a place on 16th ave near where the Brick used to be (sorry not anymore clear...but hopefully someone else can remember the name)?? I have heard they have good rates also.

Hopefully you can get a half-decent exchange rate

I've been using my RBC visa in Arizona and since the Canadian dollar dropped, the most I've been charged is $1.23. I haven't been to a Canadian bank in the last 2 years, but my credit card rate hasn't come close to $1.30 and I use it everyday here.

Not sure then...I haven't checked the exchange rate in a couple days...but generally what the exchange rate is you add approx. 2-5 cents and thats what the banks will charge you...so it could be I have the exchange rate wrong...

As I stated above tho CalForex I have heard has really good rates so that might be a good first place to call for the OP

Can someone else confirm this. I was told that most visas and mastercards offer very competitive exchange rates. They also reflect the exchange rate at the time of purchase too. So to save you on exchange rates, use as much plastic as you can.

I generally check FX rates (http://www.xe.com) on this site and its showing 1 USD = 1.23579

Not sure what the rate was yesterday so not positive if the rate will go up/down for tomorrow or not. If someone can shed some light on this it would be great.

In terms of waiting or not...it all depends on how much you need/how long you can wait.

I'm planning to go on vacation in the summer so hopefully the rates improve lol...

If only we could have low gas prices (and oil) and also have a good exchange rate...that would be awesome :)

The rate is constantly updated on that site so it now shows 1.23530...so you will get different rates when you check...

What is gas at? If gas is about $0.75/L, then the CAD is about $0.75 USD. :D

I just bought from scotia, it was only about a cent more that calforex. However if I would have waited until today I would have saved over $100....scotia selling at 1.2275 :banghead: :banghead:

UK expected to drop interest rates like the US did so the money is flowing into the Euro (and being pulled out of US and UK).

and you know calforex has a buy back program?

if you don't use all the foreign currency, you bring back the currency you have and you get cdn at the rate you paid at the time for the other currency

ie if you paid 1.27 CDN for US, you would get back the amount you paid for it
