Good Morning Everyone,

I am looking to purchase a used murano or a used mdx.. onyl problem is.. I cant decide. I know the CVT's in the murano have been viewed as weak.. but others have said in the Murano they are amazing.

On the other hand, the Mdx is a much larger vehicle.. I dont really need seating for 7... and it also weights about 300 pounds more.. there also seems to be more things that can go wrong as far as problems with the mdx... does it come in AWD?

I need everyones help. I like the styling of the murano and the mdx.. can anyone vouch for one or the other?

Looking for an 03 of either.

HELP!

buy the mdx, its a much better car and it has better resale value than the murano

yes the MDX is awd...

Ever considered the Toyota Highlander? You could score an '03 Limited with the improved 3.3L and 5spd tranny (over the 01/02 3L / 4spd w/OD) for less than 20...

Not quite in the same "class" as the MDX but heated leather, fake wood trim... the usual limited acoutrements...

I own a 2001 highlander limited and it has been an absolute tank.

For an ~03 MDX you are looking at as much as 5-10k more I would say... They are awesome vehicles as well though.

You're kidding right? The older MDX looks like ass - pretty much just like a Honda Pilot. It's bulky and gawdy looking compared to the Murano.

Murano has better power, and way better handling than the MDX too. Try driving both and it'll be a no brainer.

Bad resale doesn't come into play here because that means you can pick up a Murano for cheaper to begin with.

MDX x 100 over that eyesore (Murano).

Opinions are great - that's why I would personally buy an MDX and you would buy a Murano. Maybe it's because I don't like the sloping undertray in the Murano's front end and prefer the bulkier look. I will admit that the 3.5 in the nissan will be a much better engine and probably more reliable.

Good buy?

I bought an 03 Murano earlier this year and so far it has been awesome. The milage is actually very good for a bigger vehicle (~19 mpg city/24mpg hwy). It drives more like a car than an MDX (lower, stiffer, less roll), but is pretty much useless if you want to off-road at all. And no mechanical issues at all so far.

With some new winter tires, I wasn't sliding at all on Sunday when the roads were a curling rink (awd, anti-slip).

Hope that helps?

I am personally not a big fan of those rims so if it were me, I would buy it without the rims and I think you would save $3000 on top of the price then? (Not sure if the listed price includes those rims)

That seems like a decent price for the kms and its only a 2003, which isn't too bad.

It was meant to show you the MDX is a great mid sized suv even compared to other great names out there like Lexus and BMW.

What about the RDX? Correct me if I'm wrong. but wouldn't that be a more suitable comparison?

160,000 is a lot of kms...doesn't matter if its only a 2005, that many kms means the money you save buying it now will be spent on repairs very soon.

lol! i love my rdx! i drove an rsx-s before picking up the rdx and as far as performance goes, i'd still take the rdx over the rsx-s in both handling, acceleration and overall fun.

of course i would rather have gotten the mdx but it's too $$$ for the top of the line trim. i think the previous generation mdx looks ok.....but the new mdx looks soooo :bigpimp:

Murano will be cheaper and will be worth buying because its quicker, handles nicer, and i don't know, both suv's look like dog shit to me, i'd rather drive an 03 X5 with 100-130xxxkm for 19k.

BMW's are too expensive to fix. I know that Acura is aswell...

We own an 03' Murano. Nicest SUV I've driven by far. Great launch, fast cornering and awsome looks. We avg. about 550 - 600 a tank. The suede interior is also a plus since it's much nicer looking.

The MDX is nice, but I personally feel that the Murano is sportier. It drives like a car, and throws you in the seat.

I guess that all I can really do is take both for a test drive. I wont have a hard time finding either one of them when I finally do make up my mind.

Thanks for all the input everyone. Im still on the fence, although I do agree with everyone who said the new MDX's are gorgeous.

The CVT Transmission will quirk you @ first glance when you drive the Murano. Did the same to me, and now I just love it. It just keeps pushing back, and back into your seat.

I dont know too much about Muranos, but couple of my friends own MDXs and I have heard nothing but good things about it. As for looks I like the MDX better.

No worries, I agree. Just throwin it out there.

Aesthetically the Murano doesn't do much for me, in addition it is rather impractical, considering it's in "SUV" domain. I have a friend with the FX45 (same platform), and we couldn't get 3 snowboards in it, with 3 people. Absolutely ridiculous.

Uncle has an MDX, which I think is a great vehicle. Tows a large boat (22') to & fro the lake, without much trouble.

If you're looking for a better handling, AWD vehicle, with just as much cargo room, & comparatively priced, I suggest a B6 A4 Avant w/Quattro. I mention that, as there are others remarks about the handling of the Murano.

EDIT: added a couple B6 Avant classifieds...

I owned a Nissan Murano for 2 years. I absolutely loved that vehicle. We needed a little more room, so changed it for a Pathfinder. I would easily go back to a Murano, hands down great vehicle.

I haven't tried 3 snowboards yet (will next weekend:D), but with the backseats down, I did fit a bathtub in the box, with the rear door closed.

It's a terrible car. It handles like it's much heavier than it is. It's very underpowered. The ride quality is terrible - loud and quite uncomfortable.

If you test drive it back to back with any other car in it's class you definitely won't buy it. That's why you hardly see any of them on the roads.

See what I drive

<---

MDX Hands Down. When we bought ours a couple years ago, we test drove comparable lexus, bmw, even an audi Q7 and chose the MDX. Ride quality was far superior in the MDX. We haven't had a single problem with it.

Did you try the Infiniti QX56? I like those things ... I can't imagine it having a shitty ride quality.

And how was the ride quality in the Q7?...thats one SUV I would trade our FX for

No, we never drove an infiniti. The Q7 was very quick, decent ride, but just way too big for our needs.

12-15-2008, 09:09 AM
The Q7 isnt even near my price range of 22 000.

I looked at an MDX on friday that had 100000k for only 18,500. Silver.

I wasn't necessarily suggesting it, just saying what our situation was. You really can't go wrong with an MDX.

I've been driving a Murano since Summer '06 and I love it. In the winter it feels as quick and nimble, as my Honda Civic feels all summer!

I wouldn't hesitate to buy another......wife is pushing for a new one actually.
