Anyone here ever consider or undertake serious road trips to like South America or across a good chunk of Africa? My mind's been wandering the past few days and seems like it would be a good adventure.
Now this seems like the type of thing where theres a right, and numerous very wrong ways to do it.
What I'm thinking about right now is the vehicle itself. I met a guy in LA who was driving around the world in a VW beetle converted to dune buggy, and seems like a decent choice. I'm also thinking of like an older jeep simply to deal with any road issues.
Obviously functionality is key, what do you think would be wise to carry as far as spare parts and tools go? I'm leaning towards the beetle simply because everything is so simple and small and I could do work myself. I understand and can rebuild a carb, fuel injectors and computers - not so much.
