This isn't meant to be a bitching thread, nor do I want it to really turn into one.. well, a little is ok I guess :P

Does anyone have any experience with going to Didsbury Hospital, or down to High River for wait times?

I don't really like spending 9 hours in a waiting room for something that could have been resolved with a shot that would take 60 seconds.

If it was only a shot that would have taken 60 seconds, maybe a hospital was not the right place to go?

Did you end up waiting in an emergency room?

Most walk-in clinics can help with common medications.

my old room mate and I went to the hospital in High River because he fucked up his shoulder when he was drunk one night and we in there for maybe an hour and gone. But who's to say it won't be busy, hard to say.

High River is an excellent hospital for short wait times. If my medical problems didn't require the specialists at Rockyview, I would have gone up there every time

On a humorous level I imagine a forum full of Nurses with a thread related to "Teh city folk iz usin' our le hospital and makun us bizzy.)

Yet I truly do see the convenience of a longer drive, shorter overall time out.

It is to be expected that Calgary hospitals are going to be busier than a rural hospital considering the population size. We're talking about the 3 hospitals in Calgary serving about 1/3 of the province's population (~1 Million).

The didsbury hospital site says they service a population of 10 000 people in southern mountain view county.

They look well equiped to handle emergencies, though specialist type care probably isn't going to be avail there:

For minor shit, i'd rather goto a small hospital like didsbury. You're not sitting in a waiting room with people who are way more sick than you for 4+ hours.

I went to the Banff hospital for both a dislocated shoulder and broken collarbone (hairline fracture) from snowboarding and mountain biking respectively. No wait for either time.

Waiting room was virtually empty too.

I worked @ High RIver Hospital last summer and the emerg wait times are way better than Calgary's.

Yeah High River can have long wait times, But its usually on weekends.
Another hospital to go to , which is usually always empty is black diamond, and only 30-45 drive.

Strathmore would be your best bet.

I was drunk trying to catch a c-train and somehow thought jumping the whole staircase at the station was a good idea. Ended up fucking up my heels pretty good and had to go to the hospital. The waiting room was hilarious when I was hammered. Had some good talks with people.

+1

My friends G/F messed up her rotater cuff snowboarding a couple weeks ago and i dont think we waited more than a 1/2 hour to see the Dr. I would definatly go back for non-serious injuries.

i went to the one in black diamond when i sawed my finger open in the south kananaskis country. it was like 2 am and the place was totally dead. i didn't have my alberta health number, but they just helped me and trusted me to call it in later (which i did).

the girl doctor they had working there was on something for sure... she said she'd been up for like 48 hours, and she was all giggly and stumbly and would tip her head back and laugh hysteriously when i would tell her stories or whatever

my skin was basically shredded from a saw blade, so she had to do some tricky stitching to get it back together. she did it OK i guess, especially considering her condition LOL

Obviously it wasn't serious enough for them to move you up in priority in the triage line.

If anything people with REAL emergencies should complain about people like you clogging up the emergency rooms with non emergency situations.

We went to Childrens yesterday place was nuts. We did have an emergency and we seen a Dr within 4 mins of being there. I would say 90% of the place was full of moms with snotty nosed kids who don't know how to use walk-ins.

What pissed me off was this lady waiting to see the DR for Papercut  Talk about abusing the system.
