Anybody else getting this stupid number calling them? It is some company telling me "I won a free cruise!!" the downside? Its a recording.

I am on the national do not call list, all of my phones are, yet this same number has called each of them twice now. Since its a recording I can't tell these people to F off, and I have heard about the scams where all they need you to do is press a button and they can use that session to make long distance calls on your phone bill (I don't have conclusive evidence if that part is BS or not) so I am not pushing any buttons on this call (since they can obviously spoof their number they are not tied to moral standards). This is bullshit, if I wanted to be woken up in the middle of my night (on the night shift guys!) I would ask for it. At this point I just turn all of my phones off at "night", but seriously, that isn't a solution. Does anybody know who these assclowns are so I can complain to the people who manage the do not call list?

i never get them at home, but at work i got 13 calls today about credit cards, rogers promotions (i am telus customer), free cruises, and lower intrest rates on capital one.

Fuck, it's getting annoying!

Anyone know how to get rid of these?

Seriously, how do companies like Rogers and Telus allow these companies to spoof their "from" numbers? This really should be illegal.

Yes its the one that starts off with the stupid fog horn sound or the bell or whatever it is. I forget now but it is fucking annoying. If anybody knows who these ass clowns are I would like to call up the do not call list administrators and make a complaint about them. They are clearly violating the list.

Anyone with business phonelines can do this, think callcenters, switchboards, etc. Why would they want to crack down on it? They're getting paid either way... you'd need the CRTC to step in, but they're all former telecom execs soooo... welcome to Canada, eh!

Actually on the cruise call if you hit the button, it will ask you if you are male or female, between this age and that age and then to hold to speak to someone-immeadiatly ask to be taken off the list and they will put you through to some line that confirms your number has been removed, and they actually do not call again!!

I know because I got sick of their calls and the stupid boat blowing its horn when I picked up.....

I believe (000)000-0000 and (123)456-7890 are numbers that show up when the call is placed using skype.

It's the response to the 'do not call' list so many people signed up for thinking it would make any difference. As long as the call doesn't come from within Canada, they can still call you without ramifications, and running a call centre out of another country with VOIP saves the telemarketing company money (cheap labor) and evades local 'do not call' list restrictions.

Unitl there are enforced, global laws that will restrict this, you should not fall for the false hope federal laws put in place.

Yknow whats fun? if you get one of the people on the phone, play along, freak out, be like "wow, ive never won anything, oh my god" yell to your wife/room mate. Then, when they are like "are you 18 and have a credit card? " be like yah im 18, but shit man, i dont have a credit card, and then you just hear the guy is right pissed, now youve wasted their time

I have had my numbers less than 1 month and the _ONLY_ people who have them are family and friends. They aren't even on file with any companies I have bought stuff from yet. Obviously Vonage and Rogers have disclosed my numbers or these people are just randomly dialing numbers.

Spoofing your number should be illegal. Hiding it is one thing, but being able to put any number you want as the "from" number is bullshit. If somebody knows how I'll just get set up to have all of my calls "come from" 266-1234, then call random people with a fucking fog horn near my microphone....

ATM = Asynchronous Transfer Mode

Lol sorry I'm a nerd. But yeah this has only happened to me once and yes it started with something retarded like this is ur captain speaking.

I believe all these calls are from whoeever had my number before me (company blackberry). I get all these strange calls from chinese people wanting to speak to frank. Than native people askin for sally. And calls from the collection agency cause whoever had this number got collections on them

This would make sense, actually...my uncle that lives in the Maldives calls us through Skype but we never pick up because of the fishy numbers.

There is a national do not call list, but apparently they aren't enforcing any penalties for it until well into next year, so until then we all get to suffer through their bullshit calls. Its extra handy because just recently all cell phone companies released our numbers to telemarketers. IMO that makes the cell companies just as bad as the telemarketers, but really, what can you do about that.

Hmmm… I get the cruise one pretty often but after I got to the operator they wouldn’t listen to anything I was saying and kept calling me “Mary” after I told them I was male and telling me congrats on being over 70 years old when I didn’t even tell them how old I was… :banghead:
