How often do you guys calibrate your torque wrenches? How do you do it?

You need to have your torque wrench sent in to a company that does this sort of thing... I know I send mine out usually every few months or so...

I have never asked... I am would think though that the amount it is out would vary depending on the amount of torque being applied so it would be hard to say for certain. You would probably need to ask that question with a baseline measurment suvh as say at 80 foot pounds etc...

If you want it recalibrated u will want to call around to better quality tool stores and ask if they offer the service. Most don't do it in house though and have to have them sent out...

Depending on which torque wrench you use, the recalibration could cost more than the torque wrench itself.

Do not send your cheap-o mastercraft lol.

You can ask for a calibration report, it will look something like this:

Applied - Measured - Acceptance (percentage allowable, +/- 10%)

100 FT/LBS - 105 FT/LBS - off by 5%, this is allowable

and it would be a populated list of say 20 values, 100ftlbs to 250 or what not.

I use $500.00 torque wrenches though as I need quality so it doesn't get destroyed too fast in a constant use enviroment...

My first one was a mastercraft one that I used once. The one I have now costed $150. So after 2 calibrations, I might as well just buy a new one (that's assuming they come properly calibrated from the factory).

So I'm assuming most of you who use torque wrenches at home to swap your wheels never get them calibrated? I read they should be calibrated once a year if used lightly and more often if used in a shop environment,but I don't know how accurate that is.
