I've seen it already, and I'll tell you one thing. If this does not hit any nerve in your body you are not human.
I'm man enough to admit that I teared up a bit.

Just a great, great movie!
Will Smith is the man! I hope to god he never makes a hancock type film again, and sticks to these types (pursuit, seven pounds). I am in shock if he doesn't get the Oscar nod for next next year.

I seen it last night and I have to agree with the OP. Amazing acting! Its a bit dark but in such a human way! The music was amazing too. I'm going to find the OST tonight.

Academy Award nominee Will Smith reunites with the director and producers of The Pursuit of Happyness for this emotional drama concerning an IRS agent whose quest for redemption is unexpectedly complicated after he inadvertently falls in love. Ben Thomas is an IRS agent with a fateful secret. Assuming the identity of his younger brother, Ben sets out in search of redemption. Instead, Ben discovers true love while forever changing the lives of seven complete strangers. Woody Harrelson, Rosario Dawson, Michael Ealy, and Barry Pepper co-star. ~ Jason Buchanan, All Movie Guide

The movie is like 21 Grams,

I would recommend Seven Pounds.

Just finished watching it ... pretty good and emotional .. I was going to watch it in theatres but whatever .. Will Smith is my favourite :D .. he was good in this and Pursuit of Happiness but I enjoy him more in action/comedy movies.

i found it really slow. comes together really well at the end. it progresses too slowly for my liking though

overall good story line and will smith does a great job acting.

I do not usually agree with most critics on a lot of movies so I will reserve my judgment for when I see this movie. From the previews alone I think I may go out to see this soon. :drama:

Everyone I've talked to has said they teared up. I cried at the end of Cool Runnings though so maybe it's best if I skip this one.

Name who do you think is the best? Last 7 movies were super hits; what else do you need....

I saw this movie last night and have to say it has to be one of the most touching movies I've seen in a while. Not sure if it can win him an oscar but its enough to get him nominated though.

don't get me wrong he is a good actor and a popular performer but the best actor he is not...

Norton
Depp
dicaprio
denzel
Deniro
Pacino
Nicholson
Penn
daniel day lewis

and many more i consider better actors.

There is no denying Smith is a good actor but when i watch his movies all i can think about is wild wild west, fresh prince of bel air and bad boys.... I like his movies but he is always "Will Smith"

Guys like Depp actually become a character and i just find watching them more interesting.

Also just because movies are popular doesnt mean the acting is good.

Watched it last night. It was sad, but it wasn't THAT sad... kinda expected it though. Will Smith could be a great emotional actor, he'll win an Oscar someday.

I watched an old episode of Fresh Prince last night... the one where his real daddy didn't want to take him along on his road trip. Very powerful stuff.

I thought it was OK. Too many drawn out, pouty-face scenes for my liking. Cool premise though.

To me felt like a awkward match between Smith and the camera.

It's a flick made for people who saw Crash and hurt for days afterwards.

bmeier, i agree with you. He isn't the best. He's definitely great, but not the best.

This movie...hmm well okay the story was good..

But over all, very predictable. And very slow. I didn't find it to be anything that spectacular. I definitly went in expecting something better. I would have to say I liked Pursuit of happyness a lot more.

IMO.

It's the type of movie that you either love or you hate...

I'm usually not into the drama teary-eyed stuff but this movie really moved me - it was sad but good.

The first 90 minutes or so is a little confusing and to be honest a bit boring which is probably why so many reviews dump this movie...

How about actors that arent over 45 ? or 50......
Will's not young but he isnt up there with Pachino, Denzel so you can even compare.
Sure Depp but Depp is just fucking creep and mysterious that why people enjoy him. I'm a fan but hes just wierd....

Personally, I think that Will Smith is a fine actor. Every movie i have seen with him being the star, i feel that he captures the persona extremely well and captivates you into the movie, which genuinely keeps me interested in his movies.

It was a little slow for me. I thought Will Smith was great in the movie but it was predictable from early on. I was hoping there would be a twist in the end, but it ended like i thought it would. It was emotional, but no tears were shed on this one

Agreed but DDL and Depp over Norton every day and you forgot Josh Brolin, Bale and OF COURSE Philip Seymour Hoffman

Will is great but not close to the top.

Watched this movie last night. I was honestly expecting a much better movie..it was very slow throughout and I found it quite boring. No doubt that Will Smith did a good job but I was expected something as good as 'Pursuit of Happiness'.

not exactly sure why actors over 45 don't count, they are either actors or they aren't....

anyways half the guys i listed are approximately the same age as Will Smith.

plus there is Bale, hoffman etc.

The movie was just ok - Persuit of Happiness was better for Will. I can't see why you would  in this movie. You kind of knew what he was doing which spoiled and dragged the movie on...

The reason why we can't find too many PHENOMENAL (not just good or great) actors under 45 or 50 is because life experience is what MAKES them as good as they are. The more you have of your own experiences to draw on, the better you can be in many situations....

^ I dunno about that. DeNiro and Pacino were only 30 when they were nominated for Oscars, with DeNiro winning his first Oscar at that age. DiCaprio was also 30.

A true talent is evident early on. If an actor doesn't truly stand out from the pack by the age of 30, it's highly unlikely that they will become 'great' later on IMHO.

Wrong....a lot of good actors even named above are past their 30's and just getting true outstanding recognition.

PS the Oscars are a committee, not the world....it's hardly the only benchmark to judge talent.

I had to see it with the wife. The first half of the movie I almost fell asleep and couldn't follow the story much. But the ending is intense and made up for it. Good movie, but I won't rent or buy it as I don't need the wife crying all the time hahaha.
