I'm looking to improve my overall fitness. This week, I've begun doing ten push-ups first thing in the morning, ten again at 3pm, and ten before I go to sleep (usually around 9-10pm).

Is this healthy to do every single day, including weekends or should I be giving my body a day to rest and rebuild muscle? Is that necessary?

Any tips would be much appreciated.

I don't think just 10 with that much time in between, throughout the day is going to give you that much results.

Agreed.

If you want to improve your fitness, get a gym membership or something, do some cardio and some machines if arn't strong enough for free weights.

That all being said, if it's the choice between doing pushups and doing nothing at all, do the pushups. However, group them together for a more effective workout.

go slow, all the way down, and keep your ass down - stay flat, not bridged. Try to up the 10, or do 2 sets of 10 instead of one. Keep trying to do more and more, you'll get results.

Also, try different techiques - hands closer/farther apart, on the knuckles....

I would do burpees instead.

try bumping it up to 3 sets of 25 3 times a day and you'll notice a difference.

try this one... I think its awesome.

do:

20 push ups break 20 sec
19 push ups break 19 sec
18 push ups break 18 sec

and so on. The key is to not stop regardless of form!! Go to your knees if you have to!! But just complete it.
Your body adapts quickly and you will find it gets better.

ADVANCED:
To really set things off instead of breaking inbetween do:

20 push ups 20 sit ups
19 push ups 19 sit ups

That is mad cardio!!

Try it out :)
