So a good friend of mine just got her license and her parents are deciding on a car to buy her (yes shes a rich bitch). Theyre coming up with the smart car and a benz b class.

The parents ofcourse are just mainly concerned about safety.Im totally against both cars, reasons being: I think the smart car is just gay. The B Class is amazing for safety, but for 30,000? CMON! Especially for someone who just got her license. I'm trying to convince her/her parents otherwise of other cars to get.

Suggestion guys?

why in the world would a smart car be on their list if they're concerned with safety?? that thing would be destroyed if it got into a collision with a truck lol

If they want german engineering for less $ the Saturn Astra is a fine choice,if no the Audi A-3 starts @ $31,800 and is a better value than the Benz in my opinion.

you are basically sitting in a safety cell in a smart car, have you never seen the crash testing for one of these?

Yea, I think a lifted diesel truck will pretty much drive over most things on the road, including a g35 :nut:

Finally, the truth comes out.

If they are rich, $30K is nothing. And it's only a B class, who give a shit if she wrecks it.

And I guess they are not really THAT rich since they can't even afford a C-class.

If they had that much money they wouldn't care what class of car it was. Only poor people have to which model is more economical!

ask her to test drive everything and don't buy the car just for the looks...

again, she's a girl, point is moot.

Just what I was thinking. They'd be looking at a mid sized to full sized car if they had money and were that concerned about safety. Generally speaking, the bigger the car the safer she'd be if she got hit by someone else.

The smart car frame holds up well for crash tests but the fact that it doesn't crumple like most cars means that the car itself doesn't absorb all of the impact. Most crash tests look more like elastic collisions than inelastic which means that much more of the shock would be transferred to the occupants of the vehicle.

If it was just between the 2, I'd say the B class would be the better choice. But it'll also be more expensive than the SMART.

PM sent to OP.

My comments are reserved on the smart :D , but if you're looking for a good vehicle for a new/young driver, get a used Honda. That way you'll have lower interest rates and cheap maintenance, plus you won't have to take the hit from the depriciation of a brand new car.

You said so yourself that it has a good safety rating.... the only reason you don't want her to get this car is because you're jealous? Are you sure this is your good friend? You're trying to convince the parents to get a worse car just because you're jealous that she gets a Mercedes?

Oh, I don't know...maybe a 2006 Dodge Stratus? It's cheap, safe, and stylish. Now you can end the discussion.

Since $$$ is not a problem, definitely B class Turbo is the best choice.
