How do I find out what kind of Modem I have

I formatted my dads old computer, but I do not see a modem CD, how do I find out what network modem thingy he has so I can download the drivers to install it?

If its a mainstream PC such as compaq, hp, blah blah, look it up by manufacturer and model number. If its custom built, look it up by motherboard model, which should be printed across the board somwhere in white, big letters
