So, I just finished watching 'The Dark Knight' after setting up my blu ray player and am definitely eager for more movies in this quality.

This was the 8th time I've seen Batman.. yes, 8th  and just enjoyed this time way more than regular theatres, IMAX, or on normal DVD. Just a bit unfortunate (still looked great) that only half of the movie was in best quality possible where it's full screen instead of wide.

Does anyone have any good movies in blu ray they could list off that I should pick up?

I'm not going to bother to list movies I've seen for obvious reasons, but even movies I've seen I want to buy in blu ray.

Off the top of my head, I really wanna pick up 'Wanted', '300' and the new Punisher movie when it comes out. Hell I didn't even like the 3rd Spiderman but it looked great on display.

Just a bit curious though with every title coming out on blu ray, what about the old movies from the 80's and 90's.. do they still look terrible or have they actually been remastered to 1080p?

Happy movie watching!

Fantastic 4

I have the second one, it looks great on blu ray.

I like normal DVDs on blu ray player as well; the up-conversion is really wicked.

Check out www.blu-ray.com and see what's there. You can also see screenshots of the movies and how the quality is like.

I ordered Disney's version of Sleep Beauty , the cartoon they did in 1959. The screenshots for it look freaking amazing. My wife used to collect all the Disney classics (the traditional animation) on VHS, so now we're going to collect them all over again on Blu-ray.

Some other ones from Disney we're going to get are Fantasia, Beauty and the Beast, and Snow White, although they won't likely be coming out until late 2009-2010.

I'm hoping they release more classic movies, like The Sound of Music.

just a question.

whats the point of having blu-ray animation? I mean if they "remastered" the stuff (as Disney claims with each of its new release of older movies), it should be alright, no?

I dont see how they could improve the quality of animation to blu ray. With live movies it is definitely much higher quality compared to DVD releases.

Black Hawk Down, Band of Brothers, Sin City, Kill Bill, Planet Earth, Ironman

Speed Racer's visual is really good, too bad the soundtrack is not quite there and the story....

I thought T2 Blu-ray isn't that great compare to the DVD. It's probably why it's cheap.

If they release Saving Private Ryan on Blu-ray, I would probably buy it.

The only movies I have bought so far are Batman Begins, Dark Knight, Iron Man, Wanted, Transformers and Spidy 3 that came with PS3. I just finished watching Rambo on bluray ... it's nuts when he using the big ass gun .. .50cal I think

The Dark Knight, Batman Begins Sunshine and Transformers would be my new favorites.

Of the old movies, I have 2001:Space Odyssey and Blade Runner and they both have been remastered so well that you wouldn't even think that these movies came out 30 years ago. Absolute stunning.

Movies that mostly involve just talking and not alot of action and effects I don't find all that impressive. Not worth the blu-ray purchase if they are more expensive than DVD versions.

300 isn't a good blu-ray in terms of picture. It's a very grainy film, and it's meant to be.

For picture my two favorite blu-rays are No Country for Old Men, and Casino Royale.

For sound it's Transformers and Master and Commander, with Rambo getting an honorable mention because of the .50cal scene.

Yeah that's what I was thinking. Great movie and looks good in 1080p but the movie itself was made with a gritty/grainy visual effect.

If you can stand the story, Stealth's soundtrack is very good.

It was good enough when I watched it on DVD, Blu-ray version has it on uncompressed PCM 5.1 I think.

:werd: I was impressed as well. Usually the older movies don't turn out so great, but for $16 at FS, it was definitely a good buy.

Has anyone watched the Matrix trilogy on Blu yet? I got it for christmas, great movies, just not as much eye candy as I hoped for. The set got excellent reviews but I don't know if I'd fully agree with them. Picture and sound appears marginally better than dvd.

I have the Ultimate Matrix as well. I think it's pretty sharp, but I haven't had the chance to watch it all yet. There is seriously some extra-overkill in the set.

I also own Speed Racer, Iron Man, Casino Royale Collector's Edition, the BBC HD Natural History Collection (with Planet Earth, Ganges, Wild China and Galapagos), Behind Enemy Lines and the Pirates Trilogy. I'm looking to get the Ocean's Trilogy and the Bourne Trilogy in the future.

The absolute best movie series I want? Lord of the Rings, rumored to be released next year. The Stars Wars Hexology (?) would be good too.

Iron Man looks bloody awesome on Blu-Ray (thanks Bro for xmas present :D )

Band of Brothers looks absolutely incredible on Blu-Ray. If you have the DVD set, it seriously is worth the money to get the Blu-Ray version. It was shot in true 1080 HD, so you get a super sharp picture and incredible detail. It's a bit grainy, but it's meant to be rough and raw, and it really comes through with the Blu-Ray. I mean, I love the series to death, but the picture quality diff over regular DVD blew me away. It's THAT GOOD.

I don't think so... people like to have physical objects in return for their disposable income, hence the physical disc will probably still be the standard for the next 10 or so years (the same length of time DVD had)

I don't see how they could improve the quality of animation to blu ray. With live movies it is definitely much higher quality compared to DVD releases.

I think the whole "digitally remastered" thing was a farce- changing hues etc. The advantage to Blu-ray is that the discs have a way higher capacity on them as compared to regular DVD's so you can pack a higher resolution into each frame within the movie as well as better sound and more advanced menu functionality. From what I recall blu-ray discs have tons and tons of layers which is why they are so much more expensive and the players are very expensive as well. IIRC this is also why PS3 has a better chance of staying around for longer and producing higher quality games because they have a blu ray reader built into the unit. So, with the ability to pack more pixels per square inch (720/1080) you get a movie/game that is closer to the quality it was originally made in with the big fancy cameras and crazy resolutions. I may be completely wrong, i'm not an expert... just the way I understand it so far.

Most of the movies are good, but don't ever watch any of the matrix movies on blu ray, it'll totally ruin the experience for you, thing about Blu Ray is that it looks way TOO real lol if that makes sense. For example, you can actually see that Neo is a cartoon when he's flying or in the 2nd movie when he fights all those Mr.Smith's you can see that it's completely computer graphics, so unless you want to see how bad the action parts of the trilogy were filmed, DO NOT watch The Matrix.

I wouldn't call it a documentary really. It doesn't go deep into the life of Travis Rice. He talks a bit, but it's mostly him and his boys going HUGE.

Ha Blockbuster is probably the worst place to buy your blurays from (new ones im talking). 2 for $50 isnt even a deal cause from what i remember theyre selection of them can be had for cheaper at Future shop. Blockbuster charges at least $5 more per movie than future shop.

I only buy used blurays from Blockbuster.

I bought the ZZ Top Blu Ray- pretty cool footage and some great clips that are really vidid (their beards, guitars, crowds, etc. look awesome).

I watched Traitor with Don Cheadle the other night and it looked really good- lots of scenery from all over the world shot in HD. London, France, Middle East, Chicago, etc.

Other faves:

Casino Royale
Planet Earth
Transformers
Batman Begins

Where did you buy your bourne trilogy? FS has it for $80 right now, down to $68 with the 15% off. Thats not bad IMO, a bit easier to swallow ha. Next cheapest to that is amazon.com for $65 but shipping kills the deal. Havent seen any lower than that anywhere.

Don't they have free super saver shipping?

Ya I have to say the bourne tri box is really sweet. Surprisingly the jason model is sturdy cause of the magnet- I thought it was going to be flimsy and break off. The boxset looks sexy sitting on my shelf haha.

I also picked Hancock used at BB for $17.

the canadian sale isn't as good as the american sale you're right.

however the American site, you can save 6-10 bucks off the retail on most of the new releases they have compared to futureshops price on the web right now, even with the exchange rate.

for example, wall-e is 32 bucks at futureshop.

amazon.com has it for 19 american which is roughly 25 canadian. Buy two and you get free shipping.

ironman roughly 22 bucks canadian on amazon.com compared with 35 on futureshop.ca

but yes, not all of them are smokin deals!
