As the topic says just wondering what fellow mr2 owners are doing to their cars for 2009. I am planning a huge Toyota Show and Shine all for charity sometime in June to get everyone motivated.

A different kind of car altogether man.

The MR2 was a two-seater, low-slung thrill ride that looked great and handled fantastic. The Supra was an attention-getting twin-turbo cruiser really.

I want my go-kart back. In the spring I'm going to be looking for an example with a primo body, be it LHD or RHD. Then I'm going to give it around 300 whp and I'm going to KEEP IT for a while.

well I have tried a td06 20g, gt3071r, and sb46 t3/t4 46trim. I can EASILY say that the SB46 t3/t4 kit was the best one i had of the 3 BY FAR.

Fittment was awesome, and it made the most power.

Might not have even sold my car if i stayed with the SB46.

I've been wanting a MR2 for years. I remember SuperG sold a really nice 92 in red a few years back. I wanted that one badly lol It was so simple and clean. It was lowered, wheels and a 93 front lip and Toms sides and rear.

Anyway, how reliable are these cars? Seems like parts are readily available.

Now that Ek9Max is getting another MR2, I'll just wait to buy his or something. :D

Redlyne_mr2
01-06-2009, 03:40 PM
Theyre very reliable as long as it's been taken care of. Problem is now the prices have dropped so the people buying them can afford the purchase but can't afford the upkeep. Mods can add up fast as well. Somehow I managed to spend another 10K this winter when I told myself I was going to slow down on the mods. :(

I've had mine for 1.5 years and it hasn't been to a garage since the OOP inspection. I wouldn't say that parts are readily available as most Canadian stock is in Vancouver but alot of parts have to come from the US.

Like most older cars the timing belt/waterpump job is something that will be required if not ever done. That's a pricey one as is doing the clutch. Alternators will fail with time as well but for the most part that's it.

More or less. The stock turbo/catalytic converter assembly is a real pain in the ass to remove the first time but once you replace it with an aftermarket DP it's a piece of cake as I can remove the turbo in a couple of hours. When I installed my CT20B I replaced the infamous HOH (hose from hell) and a couple of rubber coolant lines under the intake that fail due to old age.

Yeah I better take a pass as I can't do anything on a car other than drive it, change the washer fluid and fill the gas.

Love the MR2 though, jvillain had a really nice yellow one that I was tempted to buy too.

Nobody does a better job on your car than yourself (if you're capable) and I'd rather be able to tell people that I did all the work myself rather than brag about what I paid for. But I don't mind doing work for others too.

Probably between $11-12K but it has 93+ goodies like LSD, bigger brakes & better suspension, two sets of wheels/tires, Pioneer NAV/Sattelite/Ipod, CT20B, complete exhaust, intercooler, intake, etc. Not really looking to sell until spring though.

Hmm I'll have to think on that one. I have no doubt it's a beautiful car, but $11K is a bit much for me at the moment.

We'll see what the spring brings :)

Hopefully in '09 I'll put more than 100k on my 2, '08 sucked. I was gonna sell it this year, but kept having so many problems. Running great now, and its actually in a garage this winter, so weather i sell or keep it, at least it will be good to go by spring

I'm from Winnipeg. I don't post on here much but I definitely have plans for my deuce.

I made 409 whp last year but had ignition break up up top. I was able to muster a 1.56 60ft and ran 11.8 1/4 mile.

Anyhow, I just picked up a 5SFE motor which I'm going to use to build a 5SGTE. Started collecting a bunch of parts in my house. I'll start building it in February. a good friend of mine is just about finished his 6 car garage. Gotta love heat!

Anyhow, these are my parts

- 5S block
- CP pistons
- Eagle Rods
- ATS HV oil pump
- L19 head studs
- ATS cam gears
- Kelford cams
- Supertech valves
- GT35R
- CBR 600 COP

Currently running:
- GT30R
- Custom Intake
- Q45 TB
- Custom Exhaust
- Custom Turbo Manifold
- A2W intercooler
- AEM EMS

Here are some pics:

Cheers!

I've thought about getting an s2k but after researching on the s2ki forums it was a no brainer for Me to stick with my Mr2 considering I wanted to build a drag car.

In order to build a fairly serious s2k, you'd have to sleeve th block , slap forged internals in, slap in a new rear end, get an aggressive clutch since its only a 220mm disc or a dual clutch disc assembly, and all the regular turbo and fuel support items that you would on any other car. Having said that I'm confident my deuce will be making 500+ whp with less effort. Don't get Me wrong I LOVE the s2k

Then leave the performance at intake and exhaust.

Mine was bone stock when I bought it. It is a complete different animal now than it was stock that's for sure and my only complaint is that I get a rattle/buzz for that metal blocking plate that comes with the Greddy style SMIC packages. Ive been too lazy to pull it out and fix it.

Mine wont be getting any major upgrades this year, unless a deal comes a long that's too good to pass up. Winter 09 I'll be looking to either buy a built Rev-3 or build the Rev-2.
