I found this site though craigslist that sells contemporary/mid century modern furniture, http://www.eternitymodern.com. Everything on the site are reproductions of the originals, but the prices are really good and include free shipping. Has anyone had experience in ordering from them? I am interested in the Eames lounge chair and $899 is an amazing price compared to around $1500-2000 for other reproductions and $5000 for a Herman Miller genuine version. They also have a warehouse in BC so items are shipped from Canada, so there is no customs/brokerage etc...

The kijiji listings are by eternity modern and just link to their website. I'm really tempted to order something from them, need to research thme a little more first. I'm curious to know who manufactures their stuff so I can see if a local store carries the same before I order...

if you're looking for custom and/or reproduction furniture, try domicile on 11th ave. they can get you eames, e.g., for different prices depending on manufacturer.

Its funny you mention domecile I just came from there. They said a reproduction eames lounge is around $2200-2400. They didn't know about that website but basically said to beware as it might be really cheaply made furniture.

you need to be careful about some reproduction models. Things like the Eames lounge chair and ottoman are complete crap. They look like shit and I swear the scale is off too. However if you are looking for a Barcelona chair or La Corbusier lounge chair they aren’t that bad for less than helf the price of a licensed product.

Another site that is Canadian is Palazzetti. In the contract furniture biz that is the company most often used for knock offs.

If you need any more info PM me. I've worked in the industry for over 16 years.

they will have a huge mark up on anything you buy. If you want any "modern" period furniture you are better off walking into a contract office furniture company in town. The mark up will be about half from retail.

hahaha...tha advantages of being an insider. I bought my Eames set up for under $1600......yes it is a licensed item from Hermna Miller.

seriously though. If you are looking for an Eames Lounge chair; buy an original or don't buy one. I have yet to see a knock off that looks any good. If you really want a piece that will increase in value. See if you can find a rosewood model on ebay....they are very rare!

Rotten42, im loving your Eames chair and Noguchi table! I looked at the Herman Miller Eames in Kit Interior Objects, it is amazing. I know the scale of some of the reproductions is off. A lot of times they are made a little taller and wider to sit larger people more comfortably (fat americans:rolleyes:) What would be a good office furniture place to try? Can I walk in and buy something being a reg Joe off the street, or do you have to be a designer?

88CRX, you can get a decent Noguchi reproduction for a lot less than that. Try Sojourn...

Hey rotten42, I am also looking for several peices from Eternity modern ie: Barcelona chairs, Le Corbusier Chaise Lounge, and the Meis day bed... Sounds like this thread can use all the insight youve got on reprodution furniture as youve been in the business and where to get good peices in Canada. Can you please make any suggestions and perhaps try to steer us in the right direction? What are some things to look for other than scale etc? And what is an example of a contract office furniture company?

PM directly about what you are after. There are a couple of different options depending on what you are looking at and what your timing is. For the Herman Miller stuff you need to go throught a Herman Miller dealer. I used to run the design departments for the one in town, Edmonton and Winnipeg so I can probavbly hook you up either direct or through a designer for a good deal. For the other stuff....well...I'm in the process of setting up my own dealership so if you aren't in a hurry I can do something direct. It really depends on what you want.

Hmmm, this Eternity Modern has got me thinking. They are advertising 100% Italian leather and I also checked the scale of measurments advertised to what the originals are and they are spot on. 100% 14 day money back garauntee as well? Sounds too good to be true at the prices advertised... has anyone shopped these guys yet?

BUMP.

Did anyone buy from Eternity Modern? How's their stuff holding up if you did? Otherwise, I'll bug rotten42.

Looking for an Eames lounge chair and dining room options.

I have bought a couple of things from them but nothing made of wood. (i.e. Eames Lounge) As I said before you really have to be careful when you by a knock off of a molded plywood chair. That said, checkout the warranty and exchange program Eternity Modern has. I sounds pretty descent so if the quality is off you can return it. Their knock-offs probably aren't any different than what you see at Domicle or Revolve. They all come from China....might even be the same assembly line. My old business partner toured a factory where they made these.

If you are looking for a licensed version I still have a contact at Contemporary Office Interiors I can forward on. It would be worth checking their price over some place like KIT or any other retail store. Herman Miller has a once a year sale on their web page but I think that was back in summer.

As rotten has mentioned, I'd be careful with knock off eames. A buddy has a knock off that he paid 1400 for which doesn't feel anything like the genuine I got from coi. Looks wise it looks decent though, but if you like the eames for the sitting position, I'd suggest you go with the genuine Herman miller.

Looks like I'll be saving up for a genuine one then. I sat in one at Kit Interior Objects and didn't want to leave.

I'm reorganizing my condo to have a spot for it.
