Absolutely. On that size of TV you'll definitely notice a positive difference, even at 720p.

I'm sure your screen can do 1080i. Can't all BD players display in 1080i?

I have 50" 720 samsung, I was told unless you are sitting very close to the tv it would be hard to tell the difference between 720 and 1080.

Anyone have first hand experience, how true is this?

:edit: There is a big difference from regular dvd to 720 IMO, it's like going from VHS to DVD.

I haven't checked in a little while but last time I looked on the back of most movies they were still being released at 720p. Not sure if that's still the case or not but to answer your question, you'll notice a difference for sure. However the difference to some people isn't worth the extra cost of blu-ray where other people find the difference is worth every penny.

I had the chance this Christmas to check out blue-ray on both a 42" 720p and 1080p plasma TV and I could tell a small difference but the difference between DVD is night and day.

We even did a comparison test of the same movie in a regular DVD player, it up converted in the blue-ray player and then the blue-ray version. I had to give the upconversion more credit then I thought but blue-ray still wins hands down.

In my opinion with blue-ray players prices under $200 bucks now and blue-ray movies at a reasonable price its worth switching.
