Does anyone have any personal experiences with these SUV's?
Pros and cons?
Things to look out for when buying?

Thanks!

Great trucks, of course past maintenance is important but they are super super reliable for the most part. The hydraulic suspension is really the only weak point and should be inspected if it's a higher mileage one.

Very good utility and build quality. Nice materials.

Dated interior styling.

VERY heavy and VERY slow. There is no "S" in this SUV. Depends what you're after.

Personally I'd look at something else, but it depends on what you're after. Do you need 3rd row seating, or what is it that attracts you to the LX specifically?

The third row seating in the LX470 is absolutely brutal to put down and put back up.

I should have specified, its my sister and her husband that are interested.
Specifically '06+ for the updated v8

What else would you guys recommend thats comparable?
3rd row is not a must
has to be able to tow a decent amount and have a lot of space, so no small SUV's.

I would not call 0-60 in 8 seconds "slow" for such a big and loaded SUV. In fact, I'd say it's pretty good. It's no FX45, but then, it was never intended to be.

Though not particularly busy, I think the interior is actually quite nice and not dated much at all.

Personally, I'm not sold on the exterior design. It's decent, but for a $90,000 truck, you'd think they would make it really stand out from the crowd.

The LX470 is designed to be a large, roomy, luxury cruiser. Plus, it has wonderful offroad ability compared to many other large SUVs. It also offers optional equipment like some sort of night vision system, (I do not know how well it works, but it's a great idea if it does), voice-activated gps, adjustable suspension, standard leather, etc etc.

Towing capacity is decent at 5000 pounds, but all large SUVs should be capable of this. In fact, most will be capable of more.

You're going to pay a BIG premium to buy a Lexus. I guess it really depends on what you need in an SUV. If you simply need the size and a nice ride, I think something like the Sequoia would be something to look at, and will be a ton cheaper. (Mine is for sale!) If you want something quicker and cooler looking, perhaps an FX45 is your speed. If you must have the Lexus name but don't want to pay this much money, perhaps a GX470 is a better choice.

But in the end, I think you're going to have difficulty finding anything quite comparible to this SUV. Others might be better in some areas, but it's tough to find a better all-around SUV - at any price.

TowinG capacity is actually 6500lbs :) I think you hit the nail on the head calling it a luxury cruiser, it's not a performer by any means unless of course you plan on taking it offroad, then it really shines.

Actually, I think we're both right... but it depends who you talk to:

I would guess when push comes to shove, you're probably right. It is likely the ones that say 5000lbs are siting pre-2006 engine ability or something...

Yah I looked up the towing capacity in the lexus online Voas just to be safe before I answered. The old LX470 was 6500, the new lx570 is 8500. 5000lb towing capacities are for vehicles like like the FJ cruiser, 4 runner etc.
