I just picked up a slow-cooker tonight. I've never had one before, any tips / tricks / recipes?
*did a quick search, came up with nothing*

is this sorta like a crock pot thing too?
Search up... bbq stringed beef buns
Fucking awesome, i dont follow those recipes usually tho
Buy a huge ass piece of cheap beef, like the shoulder.
Cut it into cubes around an inch thick
Fill with water just enough to submerge the beef, and season with pepper, garlic salt, salt, and any other veggies you would like (onions make them reallly sweeet =D)
You put it in the slow cooker to simmer for around... 4-8 hours depending on how much beef you got.
Once you can pull the beef apart with just two forks it should be done. Poor our the broth you made, or if you'd like, you can maybe make a gravy out of it or some sorta of soup, since the beef stock is very savory.
You take the beef after you drained the broth, and just mash away with something like a potato masher until all the beef is stringy. Add bbq sauce (i use bulls eyes and add A LOT) until to the flavour you like.
Mix around, and throw on a bun, add some veggies and cheese if you'd like, but i like it as is.
These buns taste exactly like the ones you can buy at the stampede at the bullseye stand by nashville north.

Similar for me, i put a whole roast in uncut and crack fresh pepper on it (not salt). Cut whole onion into rings, place ontop, put 2-3 cups of beef broth in (why i added no salt). Cook on low for 6-7 hrs - you can put it on low when you goto work and come home to a done roast. Remove, shred with 2 forks. Mix in bowl with some of the broth and bbq sauce, eat it on a good bun and use the broth as a dip.
or if you just want a roast, place in crock pot. Add in carrots and potatoes, 2 cups of beef broth/stock, crack some fresh pepper on it and leave it on low for 6+ hrs. Slice your roast, eat with carrots and potatoes :)

What is the best cut of meat to put in? Pretty much any cut will be tender after a day in the cooker no?

any cut, cheap is fine since it is a waste putting a good cut in it
but yeah, pulled pork... just amazing.
grab a pack of cheap pork (as in under $10/kg)
stuff it all in the slow cooker and put in spices (garlic, pepper, steak spice, whatever)
then instead of water throw in a beer
if you are a late night type, make it at about 3 am (this way if the whole beer does not fit in the cooker you can drink the rest of it) then put it on low allll day...
if you are a early riser, prepare it the night before and put it in the fridge. turn it on low in the morning
about half an hour before dinner take out all the chunks and drain the liquid, take a pair of forks and pull the pork all apart and put back in the cooker. grab your favorite bbq sauce and cover pork with it and let it simmer and heat back up (the longer the better)
grab a nice soft bun and throw on your pork, eat

One of my favorite foods: Chicken Corn Chowder
Ingredients (for 6 quart slow cooker)
1 1/2 pounds chicken breast
1 onion, chopped
3 stalks celery, chopped
30 baby carrots, sliced
3 slices ham, chopped (optional)
2 pounds potatoes, cubed (leave skin on for fibre)
3 cups chicken stock/broth
1 1/2 cups water
4 cups corn kernels (I usually do two 540ml cans: one whole kernels and one cream corn)
3 cups skim milk
1 1/2 teaspoons dried thyme
1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper
1 salt and pepper to taste
6 teaspoons all-purpose flour to thicken
1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
Topping
Grated cheddar cheese (small bowl)
Regular Bacon, chopped up (approx 6 slices – use turkey bacon for low fat)
Sourdough bread with garlic butter
1. Heat up a large frying pan. Cut up, spice and cook cut-up chicken breast to desired liking (I usually add garlic powder, seasoning salt and some Italian spice)
2. Once chicken is fully cooked, add celery and onion and about half cup of the water to loosen meat drippings
3. Once slightly translucent, transfer all to slow cooker along with all other ingredients. Give it a good stir, slow cook on LOW for 6-8 hours.
4. Top with cheddar cheese and bacon and eat with sourdough garlic bread.
Makes 15 servings. Chowder alone per serving is 3g fat, 21g carb and 20g protein.
