I installed it on VM but haven't really played with it yet.

I'm running it on a second HDD (7200rpm 80GB)

and frankly it's far far faster than my vista install on the same machine.

The whole GUI is more streamlined, and it takes a little getting used to.

I've been using it a whole 15 mins, so I can't say too much so far.

yeah, been using the beta build (7000) for about 2 weeks now since the 32bit leaked a few weeks ago, and the 64bit one leaked a few days ago. Much better than Vista so far, and actually better than the earlier alpha build... Microsoft may be on to something here... but still not enough to pull me away from my OSX... :nut:

just keep re-arming, I think all the beta keys will be the ultimate edition, so if you are already installed you can key it later. if not you can proly do an upgrade install to get it to take the key, just like vista. I have been watching the download site all day waiting for keys. Like you, already installed, but keyless.

It was available to technet and MSDN a few days ago, but is now available as an open beta as of this afternoon today. The download site got hammered and crashed...

How compatible and reliable is this beta right now? good enough to use it as a replacement for vista say? I could do with replacing mine for the few things I use it for.

it is beta software, so you are warned not to replace your standard operating system as of yet... its technically only been out since yesterday, so give it a few weeks to people to use it, then search online to see how their experiences have been...

I put it on there primarily to check what the MBP would score in the Windows Performance Index (it got a very decent 4.1, not bad for a first gen release MBP), but have kept it on there since I got it. I was using the pre-beta before that, and can tell you that its been very much improved. I've been using this beta for a few weeks on my MacBook Pro, and have not had any issues with it at all... works a lot quicker than Vista did... but I don't use it for anything crazy, just surfing occasionally and watching YouTube vids and stuff...

It also says:

The Beta will stop working on August 1, 2009. To continue using your PC, please be prepared to reinstall a prior version of Windows or a subsequent release of Windows 7 before the expiration date. You won’t be able to upgrade from the Beta to the final retail version of Windows 7.
