anyone know what rock salt is, and where to get it? trying to make ice cream. says we can also use sea salt or kosher salt, but need to add more into the mix.

is rock salt the crap you put in a water softener?

You can buy kosher and sea salt at coop. Rock Salt is a little trickier. There is a store in Inglewood that sells all kinds of really cool salts... Savour Fine Foods. Very cool things in that store.

danie, we've got sea salt but the kind we have was pretty expensive and i don't want to use 3/4 cup of it for ice cream LOL. i was hoping rock salt was cheaper haha. i'll try calling savour fine foods and see what they have.

You could always go buy kosher salt from coop. A pretty big box is $7 or so

Kosher or sea salt at loblaws is only like 3 or 4 bucks for a box.
