Hey punky - might I suggest that once they have the bike, they throw a little 8ml paint protection film on it. If you chip carbon fibre, it loses a lot of it's structural integrity. Shadow could probably hook you up. I would ask that Brian does the work.
Cheers,

Giant makes some amazing bikes but if they are looking at CF I assume they are looking at a road bike. In that case, there are many choices above the Giant that should be considered first.

Definitely consider that once its done, never knew shadow would do work on a bike?

For some reason they really like GIANT, i think its because its "made in the USA". Any other "made in USA" brand that i should look at as well?

GIANT is actually one of the best out there.. they are one of the only manufacturers that make their own CF whereas all the other buy from the Dupont maunfacturers. I only ride GIANT, hence my avatar.... their bikes are amazing but TREK, Cervelo and many other are also top notch. If theyre looking at Specialized, they are made by GIANT as well. The T-Moblie Tour de France cycling team uses GIANT.

Just my .02 as well.....

I thought Giant was made in Taiwan. I picked up my Giant mountain bike in Taiwan when I lived there and it was dirt cheap. I was told it was cheaper because it was made in Taiwan and there were no duty/taxes added.

From http://allanti.com/page.cfm?PageID=328

Giant - You may have ridden a bicycle made by Giant without knowing it! Giant is the world's largest bicycle manufacturer with factories in Taiwan, China, and Europe. Giant, a Taiwanese company started in 1972, manufacturers their own bikes - including the carbon bikes, which is unique in the industry (i.e., most other brands utilize other manufacturers such as Advanced or Martec).

In addition to making their own bikes, Giant also makes, or has made, bikes for many other prominent brands, including Trek, Specialized, Schwinn, and Bianchi. Giant's claim to fame is that they have the most sophisticated and efficient manufacturing facilities in the bicycle industry.

A bit of trivia is that Giant owns 30% of Hodaka, a key Taiwanese supplier for many brands such as Bianchi.5

Giant also sponsors the T-Mobile professional cycling team.

Anyways, I really like my bike and would highly recommend Giant, at least their mountain bikes. I have no experience with their road bikes.

If you're looking high end then it's Cervelo all the way imo:

http://www.cervelo.com/

Cannondale also has some very nice options as well as Kuota (italian):

http://www.kuotanorthamerica.com/

In the end it's going to come down to price and personal preference but some brands do have better fit options than others depending on the size of the rider. Most of the big companies have some great bikes in either entry, intermediate or high end but no company has ALL great bikes I'd say.

Your best bet no matter what brand is chosen (again, imo) is to find a F.I.S.T. certified shop (if you can in Calgary?) for fitment and go from there.

Even a non-competitive rider will benefit greatly from perfect and proper fitment. :)

Never knew they're that big, very cool stuff. Thanks for your opinion!

You're right, they're not made in US, oh well. I'll just get what they want to buy. I love the idea of the fitment, but unfortunately the bike will be shipped off to them, so they can't really go there for a fitment.

Awsome guys, i got some great advices, and hopefully i'll have a chance to look up these bikes over the weekend!

Where you shipping it too? Just make sure you know their height/weight and overall size to ensure you get the right size frame for them. Then, they can go to a local shop and get all the little adjustments made to get it dialed in. Good luck with whatever you go with! :)

yeah Cervélo has some nice stuff. Just keep in mind your body weight when buying a carbon fiber.

Rocky Mountain still makes a great bike in my opinion.

CF is a lot stronger than people are led to believe, I know 240 lb + guys that ride full CF road bikes. Hell, cannondale has a 6inch travel all-mountain bike with a CF frame and it'll take pretty much anything lift access and beyond that 90% of riders will ever throw at it.

RM makes some good bikes for sure but there's way better pricing and quality to be had by almost everything named in this thread in the roadie world before considering them (imo).
