View Full Version : Soaking Tires in Diesel

I have heard about the theory that if you soak tires in diesel they can smoke up better. But i have also read that drag racers use a similiar idea to soften tires for quicker times. I know that a harder tire is better for burnouts.. so how does this work for both, and how long should they be soaked for???

lol i've never heard of this but could you imagine the smell of the burnout? :barf:

yea, from what i hear it does smell, but you cant smell it over the burning rubber. i have also heard of using bleach or wd40. but bleach wears out to quickly and wd40 is WAY WAY to expensive to soak your tires in

Are you trying to just make smoke? or is there another reason?

Can you imagine what'll happen if you get a rock caught in your tire and it sparks on the ground?

Er, nothing? Diesel doesn't ignite like gasoline.

I don't know about soaking the tire in it but I've seen diesel splashed on the area where the car was doing a burn out not a large amount though.

Smokeshow competition?

Don't know if they are available down under but you could import these.

ok, just so you know, yes it is for smoke, plus, just to add that i know that you use diesel or fuel or something like that and it softens the tyre. but why would people do it if it softens the tyre it makes no sense! anyways... more replies would be AWESOME!!!

Dude, why would there be a rock on the pad, generally...(BUT not always) they are swept clean after each burnout so generally that shouldnt be a problem

Iv used foam tire shine on my 240. It did the trick pretty well

You can put out a cigarette in a barrel of diesel.

Funny you mention that because, i just got new tires put on my ute and they put tyre shine on it and accidently spread it on the top surface of the tyre and we couldnt drive at speeds for a couple of kms just until it was all off.

It looks like some sort of sauce, almost like a BBQ sauce so it might be a spoof. :dunno:

I'm in Brisbane now (hot here). What do you drive? Do you have enough power to do a burnout without making your tires more slippery?

Yea man, making plenty. but i just couldnt help thinking of ways to help my car look better. it already does fat skids but it is still nothing like the near 1000 rwhp car doing the massive burnouts.

What's your goal? More smoke when doing a burnout?
If so, what gear are you doing the burnout in? What's your method?

Diesel is more of a solvent than a hardening compound. If people with high HP vehicles are using it, its probably because it would soften the rubber so it's easier to burn off or smokes easier. I'm just guessing at the reason. But there is a reason behind diesel baths for parts and that's because it will dissolve nearly everything off of metal.

3rd gear the whole way man, and yea just to make more smoke. i dont really have a method but i can drive pretty good (without bragging) all i want to do is make more smoke but without putting chemicals on the ground

Well, you should have enough tire speed in 3rd gear. Try some other tires, or increase the duration you're burning out for to get some smoke.

This is my last car in 2nd gear with only 318whp:
