I woudn't consider it a Civic considering the cost. But you're right, you buy the upper/lower receiver, stock and then start adding scopes, rails, grips, etc.. whatever you wanna do with it.

And as far as rodent hunter?? haha I don't think you'd wanna be shooting a squirrel with a .223 rem... You'd have squirrel fragments within a 2km radius.. this gun packs a serious punch.

And yes the AR is the civilian version of a M-16.. This is the 16" barrel which is the carbine version. very compact with a 6 way adjustable stock.

some fun stats for you

Maclean’s reported the following in the July 7 ’08 edition (“Lawless, but Gunless,” p. 58):

A. One-third of Canadians own a gun or guns; 90% of Americans do.

B. Canada has 60 gun murders for every million people annually; the US has 340.

C. Canada annually has 190 total murders per 1 million population; the US has 570.

The murder rate overall in the US is 300% of Canada’s.

yeah and the majority of those murders in the US occur in states with stricter gun laws than Canada

Guns don't kill people, other people do. Your mentally would suggest that if guns didnt exist, people wouldnt be killing eachother. History has a lot to say about that.

thats why you get a restricted fire arms licence

I have one. But only being able to take your gun to a gun range is boring.

OOo that's not cool.. Ok maybe they aren't allowed in Alberta

They are allowed. But they're restricted. Not banned. Meaning the government installs a little camera on your gun and watches every time you pull it out. It's also illegal to do anything with it outside of taking it to a gun range.

It's funny because what I get out of it is that the US has more gun murders than Canada per million people, but they also have similarly more non-gun murders per million. Doesn't that mean guns are not the common factor?

Good stuff.

Or you can be like my grandpa and have his Prohibited Firearms license from way the fuck back. He has some crazy guns.

One problem I see with over half the people in this thread is simply ignorant uneducated people. I have been around guns since I was 5 (Grandpa was a gun smith, always went to gun shows).

His AR15 is a semi-automatic... along with a lot of assault rifles you see in bank robberies etc. They are just as dangerous as a semi-automatic hunting rifle. In fact my father owns a hunting rifle that was taken apart and made to look exactly like a AR15 for education purposes.

North Hollywood shootout was a special case. Those guys actually had full autos with armor piercing rounds... They had to of had A LOT of hook ups for that.

So yes, the comment on how often to you see robberies with full autos was true... it is very slim. People just look at a gun and assume.

I saw a youtube video where a guy did exactly that. He took an unassuming, conventional looking hunting rifle with wooden furnishings, the type people would call a "tool" for hunting. Within a few seconds he had turned it into a "menacing" looking assault rifle that people would scream about being a bad thing to have - all through cosmetic changes.

Absolutely amazing gun to shoot.. I can't wait to start accessorizing! :)

I get tomorrow off for MLK Jr. day so I figure what better way to spend it than to go around gun accessory shopping. :)

Thanks for the comments from people who "Get It"

Owning a gun and getting to shoot guns is a hobby just like cars are.. And whether you like it or not.. Cars are a lot more dangerous to the avg person than guns are and it's VERY easy to get one of those 3000lb bullets which is completely asinine.

I have the opportunity to own something that I've always had a passion for so I'm going to do it.. I'm not a criminal, I've never been in trouble with the law and I am a tax paying resident of the US so why wouldn't it be fairly easy for me to get a gun??

Trust me, the kinda checks they do on you when you immigrate are nothing close to what happens when you buy a gun so if anything was "wrong" it would have been found a long time ago.

Oh Lord, please stop posting. You're making me embarrassed that you're a fellow American. It's that same ignorance and bullshit belief you have that gets other Americans a bad reputation when visiting other countries. Just like when I entered Frankfurt Germany and at the airport when I showed my passport, they asked me, "Are you a gun toting American too?"

Seriously, look at your posts and realize you are representing your nation. And if you're so Pro-American, you should be more intelligent than this, rather than giving out more stereotypes.

I'm sure you don't see any of these Canadians going on a United States forum typing, "Hi there, eh, I like my hockey, eh. What was that aboot."

Wrong, I have talked to several lawyers about this as well as people who have done it..

You are allowed to carry two passports, Canadian & American..

As I said, you can be a Citizen of both Countries because of the laws between Canada and the U.S.

You can't however be a citizen of both the US and say China.. this would not work. hehe

Um dude.. Can you read?

Unlike the law in effect in Canada up to 1977, the current Citizenship Act allows Canadian citizens to acquire a foreign nationality without automatically losing their Canadian citizenship. Since February 15, 1977, a Canadian citizen who acquires another nationality may retain Canadian citizenship, unless he or she voluntarily applies to renounce it and the application is approved by a citizenship judge. The current act thus makes it possible to have two or more citizenships and allegiances at the same time for an indefinite period.

Consequently, you may have the rights and obligations conferred by each of these countries on its citizens. Whenever you are in a country that recognizes you as a citizen, its laws take priority over the laws of any other country of which you may be a citizen. International treaties may, however, allow exceptions to this rule.

A person may have several citizenships at the same time. For example, a person who was born in a country other than Canada, who applies for citizenship and is naturalized in Canada, and then naturalized in a third country may be a citizen of all three countries. However, cases of dual citizenship are more common. Although this pamphlet deals primarily with dual citizenship, the information contained in it applies equally to people who are citizens of more than two countries. The terms dual citizenship and dual nationality are now used interchangeably.

Before the Citizenship Act of February 15, 1977, Canadian law limited dual citizenship. It also provided more ways to gain or lose citizenship than does our current law. Canadians who became citizens of another country before that date should check to see if they are still Canadians. Since that date, Canadian law, like the laws of several other countries, has allowed dual citizenship.

Right there in black and white..

As stated before they are RESTRICTED which makes getting one very hard, so NO they are not readily available.

Restricted firearms include:

most handguns;
semi-automatic rifles and shotguns that are capable of discharging centre-fire ammunition, have barrels between 105 mm (4.14 inches) and 470 mm (18.5 inches) long, and are not otherwise prohibited;
firearms designed or adapted to be fired when reduced to a length of less than 660 mm (26 inches) by folding, telescoping or other means; and
firearms restricted by regulations.

Getting U.S. citizenship does NOT give up your Canadian citizenship, PERIOD, unless you tell Canada you want to give up your citizenship..

This is between US and Canada it does not apply to ALL countries.

No it's not difficult and you don't need to give up your Canadian citizenship. I have both passports because my Dad was born in the US and I grew up in Canada. Kind of a complicated application process with all the paperwork you need to provide, but not very difficult.

Man, I can't believe I'm defending modded46

i strongly disagree with this statement x10000000, sure they call in your info and you're .. sane/normal etc, but say you had a kid and he had a grudge against someone at school. Or something tragic happens and someone gets drunk/depressed beyond control/snaps and whips out the gun, such easy access prompts 'murphys gun law' as i like to call it, if theres a gun to be use it'll be used.

but it's a fken cool gun, is this full auto? .223 remington is like the nice way of saying.. yeah i have a US army standard issue M4, doesn't it fit NATO rounds perfectly? isn't a handgun enough? it's not like you're living out the movie 'Red Dawn' day to day lol

Other than shooting an AK and a G3, i've shot my friends attempted replica of a M40, (.308 M700) and thats about as close as it gets for guns with me, i'm happy to live in a country with as stringent firearms laws as we have.

i'm only interested in the accuracy aspect of it, i.e: shooting a water bottle with a .22 from 600yds, now that was cool as hell.

600yrds?? Are you sure on that one?? Cause that's pretty far.. Almost .35 mile.. Amazing.. The range that I go to here only has a 25yrd & 100yrd points..

I don't have a scope for it yet, I'm just using a red dot and it's incredibly accurate at 25 yrds..

Daniel Defense rails are wicked expensive but I definitely plan on getting some type of rail for the front hand guard.. A guy I work with said to take a look at a Samson or PRI rail and I have a front grip ready to go on.

Also, it's got a pretty standard pistol grip so I'll probably replace that in the future as well.

It is not full auto, it's a sem-auto as fully auto here is illegal unless you're in the military or for certain law enforcement agencies. And you're right a 5.56 round is exactly the same.

And no a hangun isn't enough. :)

So how many restricted guns do you have then??

Yeah, there's been some slim pickings lately. Some of the cheaper ones, like the RRA's, etc., are pretty tough to get, but if you're building yourself a nice one, there is stuff around. I've been looking into putting an AR together for a year or so now. It'll be awhile yet. I want to go Stag upper and lower, so it's not going to be cheap.

Possible, but I doubt it. Maybe if by "water bottle" you mean 5 gallon jug, by "600 yards" you mean "looked like about 600 yards to me", and by "shooting" you mean fluking into it once every 50-100 rounds. Holdover at that range would be retarded.

yep, we had 3 milk jugs filled with water and a watermelon at 600yds, was on a friends acreage just near airdrie

probably took me about 20ish tries and aiming about 4 meters up in the sky. I still think i just made a lucky shot, but literally aimed into the sky just above the hill

so it wasnt really a range lol, but that .308, it'll do 600 on a clear calm day without flaw right through the center of a fire extinguisher without much height cross hair compensation (i dont know what the term for that is)

edit, ^ yes we could say about 600yds, but through some bushnell rangefinder dunno how accurate those are, plus it was measaured by the gun owner many years (hes been going there for over 17 years to shoot guns)

lol ya milk jugs and 2L coca cola bottles. not those small ones

That sounds about right. Just clarifying that you weren't consistently hitting shit with a .22 at 600 yards.

Haha. Not unless you've got the front scope rings on stilts. A .308 will drop ~60" over 600 yards with a 200 yard zero.

i dunno if it makes the difference but the gun owner packed his own bullets so i dunno if he increased the charge or.. can you do that?

anyways to give you an idea, here is one of the 2 fire extinguishers that met their death, this one was really close like 150 yds i think, the 600 yd is around the top right near those 5 jugs near the bush if you can see em
