Looking at ads such as this one online.

http://calgary.en.craigslist.ca/cto/997522268.html

I always see these people claiming to get 600, 650, 700 km on a tank of gas. I have never got close to that in any of my Honda's. I get 450 in the city out of my current Civic Si (not beating it). Are these peoples ads full of shit? Or do I need a tune up or something, as Im not seeing close to 650 km to a tank :dunno:

I get 800 km on a tank (52L) on the highway with my Honda Accord when I don't have a heavy foot. Generally I get 650 km in the city.

That is a big tank, the Civic's had a 35L tank? Somewhere around there, it only costs ~$25 to fill it up right now.

You just answered your own question.

People don't advertise city mileage, they advertise highway (as the number obviously looks better)

Go hit highway #1 west, fill up at the gas station just outside of the city, and keep going west at the speed limit, Ill bet you get 700+km.

550ish kms on a da9, driving from end of deerft south to springbank every day, not bad but I can probably get more kms doing less 'spirited' driving on the transcanada , winter beater honda was the best idea ever lol

I should be getting an extra 250+ km on the highway? I'm going to fill this beast up and head out to Edmonton fairly soon to test this then. I should be able to get there and back on 1 tank.

yea you should be about able to do it, mind you, you will likely be right at empty when you arrive back in calgary, so i would recommend filling up anyways:thumbsup: i drive to banff and back on like a third of a tank in my 01 civic:dunno:

Before they decided to tow my crx for being on the deerfoot less than 12 hours with a broken dizzy, i was getting REALLY good mileage. My gas guage was kinda broken, but i would fill it, drive for 400 km, and fill it again, and i was getting 400km to around 20$ give or take a dollar or two. That was drive to calgary from crossfield, so mostly hiway, but consider as soon as i hit deerfoot, its stop and start from country hills all the way to 16th and then slow until my turn at peigan, so theres some city in there too haha. Shame, i let the impound keep it and got a 91 civic 4 door now, lets see how it does. =p

Gas mileage discrepancy is IMO %90 of the time due to driving habits. When I ride along with other people it makes me realize how much more aggressive I drive and how much more I rev my engine. I know some drivers that never take their cars over 3000 RPM. Heck, after I start my car it never drops below 3000 rpm unless I’m cruising or stopped. That honestly kills gas mileage in any car by quite a bit.

Sometimes I wonder if people are using Imperial gallons instead of US gallons to calculate mileage. Imperial gallons a larger than US so when you do the math it'll add an extra few miles to make it look like better. I average 400kms a tank under moderate to hard driving.

In the summer I would consistently get 600+ km every tank in my 07 LX with two or 3 bars left. Mostly 16th Ave and Deerfoot though.

Yep. IF you stick to the speed limit.

Makes a big difference. When I was cruising to Montana in my mustang, on my way down I went the speed limit the whole time, and got 32mpg, on my way back... I was more "spirited" and only got 27.5mpg, lol. (edit to add: Canadian gallons, not US)

If youre wondering about mileage, get a ScanGauge II monitor (about 200$ - also doubles as a code reader) and stop guessing.

I discovered that my 02 civic hatch shuts off the fuel if I am engine braking (ie take foot off gas) so I dont kick the clutch down and idle to a stop anymore rather I leave it in gear.

Also it uses about 0.9L of fuel per hour at idle - translates into about 1c of fuel used per minute.

My total daily commute costs about $1.30.. and stop and go traffic isnt nearly as bad as I though it was.

you should have a 45L tank.

if you're only putting 30 liters of fuel in, there's 1/3 tank left when you fill up.

I get 550-600 on my civic but i keep my revs around 3000 and its a standard with usually no more than 2 people.

I got ~600km per tank city driving in a 91 Chevy S-10 with the 4.3 litre engine... Mined you that thing was slammed to the ground so I never drove fast in it. :dunno:

This is correct.

In the "city" my Honda's get:

- rsx 600kms a tank

- B20 Civic 550k per

- Accord 700k per

When honda's hit the E on the fuel gauge, there is still plenty of gas in there. You can stretch it another 80-100kms

Very true. I just pushed my car an extra 27 kms after the last tick went out on the dash for fuel ;).

I usually don't because of the fuel pump however.

I have an 07 Civic and I have went to Edmonton and back on about 2/3 of a tank of gas...so on the highway, I can easily get about 800-900 per tank of gas (~50L)

In the summer, I'd get about 550-600 on a tank in the city. In the winter, with all the warming up and such, I only get about 500 on a tank.
