depends on the type of tv
old tube tv: s-video
LCD or plasma: vga or dvi (dvi is better)

My tv is HDMI only so im running a dvi to hdmi converter from my puter to my tv. Then you run a converter from headphone jack to rca style to output your sound. or if your computer has fiber optic out, run that, memory express has both of the mentioned converters. I have a system built just for my tv that pulls my movies over the wireless network, on system on the 50" in the bedroom, and one system on the living room tv. Fun stuff ;)

Look at the outputs on your video card, look at the inputs on your television. Get a cable that matches any of those combinations. Good luck.

You forgot the best, hdmi. hdmi carries the absolute highest quality in both video and sound.

You forgot that a lot of video card drivers don't support HDMI and simply split up the video/audio into DVI and SPDIF over the HDMI line.
