the 8000gt is faster, more or less the same as the 9800. The 9800 just has a smaller die. Nvidia has gone through some strange naming conventions.

The new 4000 series ATI cards would be a fair competition.

8800GT is still a great card. Upgrade the cooling and it should be good for a couple of years with a small overclock.

BTW, What model monitor is it?
