I saw in a Chinese magazine that JDMAuto up in Edmonton are giving away free gas cards with some car starters. They are selling CompuStar 2-way starters and giving away $500 in gas. Has anyone else seen this? What's the catch?

Maybe it's a draw for $500, not every buyer? Or maybe it's special JDM race gas, that only works on RHD cars? :D

The gas is probably fake. Cardboard mulch + water = AZN 94 octane.

Because if there IS a catch, they won't tell you what it is.

they probably charge for ever little feature and that 500 dollar alarm/starter becomes a 1000+ dollars out the door.

probably because they can write off the gas cards and save money on the 'promotion' and they probably got a bulk deal pay $350.00 for $500.00. So it saves on costs and they can push old stock out without having to discount it.

and what was said above me, about the fact that I am sure it is only available on a fully loaded alarm.

It seems highly likely that is only available on a "full" alarm. Some installers will charge extra for power locks, manual transmission, optional temperature sensor, special programming like cold start, turbo timer, etc. If each "option" costs $50, it'll add up very quickly.

In the end, no one will start a business to lose money.

The Compustar is probably $499 but in order to get the gas card you need to have it installed by them at an inflated price.

It's Chinese people...they got some discounted no-name graded gas for cheap. Plus the transaction must be CASH-only deal probably!

They have a total of $500,000, which equates to 1000 gas cards.
