Pass. Not only will it mean that the compressor wheel and housing will be worn down, it means that there is excessive shaft play. Dunno if you know or not, but Garrett BB CHRAs are non-rebuildable so you'd end up spending the cost of a new GT28 on replacing the CHRA and compressor wheel/housing.

Don't buy a used turbo unless you know exactly what you want and what you're getting.

Wouldnt compressor wheel rubbing mean compressor wheel explosion?

usually if a fin breaks off the whole thing will wobble itself to death.. then explode/grenade lol, i've seen it happen on a GNX :nut:

Who would even try to sell a turbo in that condition? Buy new when youre purchasing a turbo... many many lessons learned.

Always buy new turbo, it's not like they are expensive these days

We rebuild Garrett BB turbos all the time, its alittle more than a journal bearing turbo but not much (about $350 or so). Those that say they are not able to rebuild them are out to lunch, either that or they just dont have the hookup for parts? :dunno:

how much force are you using when checking the turbo? if your really reefing on it and getting the blades to touch then chances are its still ok, now if they rub with only mild pressure then its a different story. end play is the biggest concern. IMO
