what is the point to sleeving a block ?

The stock sleeves are not built strong enough to handle massive power. You cut out and replace the sleeves with aftermarket ones, that are made with stronger alloys, and resist heat and fatigue more. They can withstand much more cylinder pressure than the stockers for sure. From what i understand they start giving up on that engine around 400 hp? block guard is a good alternative, but apparently causes cooling issues and hot spots?

anyways, depends what you want for horsepower really.

i want like 300 hp or so , you think i should sleeve the block or leave it alone?

I would leave it alone. It should take that just fine, altho depending on the money you want to spend, forged pistons couldnt hurt. but i think with the right tune youll be ok on stock block....compression ratio of 9.2:1 should be pretty boost safe.

yah im going to get forged pistons and H beam rods, and stock crank and vtec head,

Oh you're planning an NA setup?

I hope not... 300HP N/A in a civic at our altitude is hard. Look at Revhard. He's barely managed what... 220whp out of a RSX-S? That's with basically every possible bolt-on and then some.

300whp is very doable on stock sleeves, pistons, and rods. Also a vtec head is not needed to make that kind of power.

Stock sleeves become an issue in b18's at about 500whp and a block guard is not a good alternative as open deck blocks are designed so that there is some movement in the sleeves. They also don't brace the sleeve where it needs it which is about 2 or 3 inches down not at the top.

I'm not saying it's not doable, I'm saying it may be ever so slightly difficult at our altitude doing an N/A build!

I would say boosted b18b without vtec head, youll make 300 whp no sweat, and youll actually make torque (=

Yup a good sized t3/t4 or my personal preference an hx35 will work awesome for this. Stock b18b with headstuds and a decent tune will make 300whp with an hx35 at about 15psi.

yea i agree, 300whp is easy on a stock b18b.
with my t3/t4 setup i made 246whp on 9psi.
I blew my motor but i think it was because of a mistake in the tune but i should have made 300whp on 13 or 14 psi.
with a ls vtec setup and 14psi you would prolly make 400whp just cause the head breaths so much better.
