I'm trying to buy a new vehicle, but want to use it for several purposes including city commutes, road trips, and some mountain off-roading. however, mpg is a slight concern in case gas prices go back up... so i'm trying to decide if I should buy a domestic truck or SUV that might have higher mpg but be cheaper to buy and maintain, or spend more on an import suv or subaru or something, that will have better mpg but cost more initially and to maintain.

are there any good sites that give mpg for all kinds of vehicles (old ones cause i'm buying used).

sorry, but i really value word of mouth over a computer algorithm based on who knows what...

looking for 'good' sites, not just a list of sites. thanks though

Based on word of mouth, we would all be driving 47 MPG turbo Saabs.

Are the EPA listings (which were recently revised) not good enough?

^^thanks guys

edit: badatusernames, i mean word of mouth sites. being that this is a car forum, i would expect that people are experienced and could suggest sites to me, so that I don't have to 'reinvent the wheel,' so to speak. i wasn't even aware of the EPA listings, for example.
