LF: Summer Job

With the economy the way it is, are there still any O&G companies which you guys may work that are infact hiring summer university students for 2009?

Ive tried husky, encana (hiring freeze), suncor, nexen..

are there any others I should apply to?

i work for one of the big ones. most of the small ones have cut the positions or put on a freeze. If you didn't get an offer in 08, good luck. If your in engineering you may be able to but otherwise b. comm student swill be really competitive.

Good luck getting a job at any O&G companies this summer. Unless you are a third or fourth year returning student they won’t even look at you. Also you need to have a parent working their to enable you to get a job.

Thank goodness I have some good connections.

Depends on what you wanted to do, i'm almost sure summer recruiting is over though. If you applied during the actual recruiting season, you might have had a shot. The number of students they are taking are down for sure (less so in Canada), but not out.

Well i work for a rather large O&G and all our students were hired long ago. This year we had 5x the applicants we had last year.. hopefully you have a 3.9 are are you will need to know somebody important

the company i was with last summer has laid off tons of people and the people lucky enough to still have a job had to take a pay cut and work x number of unpaid days.... this was a smaller company though

Last year I got my OG summer job in september, that's usually when they hire. This year is tough, but the UC career service is still posting up some summer positions. It's really competitive right now though. I would say you are a bit late, but of course dont stop trying.

I'm in the same boat brah, been trying at investment firms, banks, O&G for the past 2-3 months.....pissed off at the way the economy is right now
