Licence plate year sticker

Can you get ticketed for putting the "year" sticker in the wrong place? I have a friend who put the "10" sticker on top of the "09" sticker.

I know that all the even years go on the left, and all the odd years go on the right, but is this mandatory? as in, can you get ticketed for this?

i dont think there is anything wrong with it?... i put my stickers on iether side and never got a ticket for it.. so i dont think you should have an issue

considering you can buy stickers for either 1 or 2 years, there shouldn't be anything wrong with it

ie in 08 buy a 2 year sticker and get a '10

Yes its illegal, but whether they care enough to pull you over? Not likely. Half of the city can't figure out where to put the sticker even though they give you a picture when you get it.

As for going 2 years at a time, yeah it usually is cheaper since you save the service fees (~$8 cheaper than 1 year at a time).

It is only illegal if you dont have the proper corresponding sticker to go with it. So, if your friend covered up the January sticker with the 10 sticker, he can be ticketed for having an invalid plate. As long as he has both, its ok.

And yes, renewing for 2 years is $9.45 cheaper than renewing for one year.

I followed a CRV last week that had the 06 and 07 in the bottom corners, 08 in the top corner not occupied by the month, then 09 and 10 in the middle of the plate beside the dash/hyphen.... Does nobody look at the back of the piece of paper the sticker comes on? I had a good chuckle at this as I ended up following it for quite a while, everytime we stopped I shook my head. :facepalm:
