If you look in your Linksys documentation or on the linksys webpage you will see that this router and MOST linksys are NOT CAPABLE of doing many of the MSN added features due to security.
Nothing you can really do with ports. It catches it for some other reason. I remember reading a tech memo about it a while back.

Thanks
Mmmm yea....
I am gonna have to say for you to stay away from D-Link.
SOHO is midrange in my books, and GVC will work as well.
Take a look at those kinds and see if they will do what you want.

I'm not sure how it is that a router's firewall can distinguish different features of msn, other than blocking the ports. And messenger uses quite a few ports to support all it's different features.

I found this on the linksys support Getting MSN messenger working with the router (http://kb.linksys.com/cgi-bin/om_isapi.dll?clientID=435125&QuestionText=messenger&SelectName1=&advquery=%5bs%5d%5bRank%2c%2050%3a%5bSum%3a%20messenger%5d%5bMerge%3a%20%5bThesaurus%3a%20messenger%5d%5d%5d&infobase=linksysrev.nfo&record={3A6}&softpage=IKW_ENU_JDocView) and this might help too, Port triggering (http://kb.linksys.com/cgi-bin/om_isapi.dll?clientID=435125&QuestionText=messenger&SelectName1=&advquery=%5bs%5d%5bRank%2c%2050%3a%5bSum%3a%20messenger%5d%5bMerge%3a%20%5bThesaurus%3a%20messenger%5d%5d%5d&infobase=linksysrev.nfo&record={3D7}&softpage=IKW_ENU_JDocView)
