rust... look for rust. reliablilty is okay as long as you dont beat on it to much and to hard.

yes i hav a toyota but it has more problems than anything else. speedometre. air filter. the whole electrical started burning a while back. doors. transmission. the flip lights break. the shocks need replacing already. i dont understand it. i dont even drive it that hard but everything breaks. even things ud think wer impossible to break...break. my alarm speaker thing even started burning and to this day i hav no idea why. it was grounded fine and all the fuses are intact.

rocker, frame rail, wheel well rust are the most common.

Any car will be reliable so long as you maintain it. I've had my SR for almost 3.5 years, did timing chain kit and all front seals. It runs the same as the first day i started it, regular maintenance (i do my oil changes religiously at 4k). i think i've put on 40-50k on it since i've swapped it.

Research! there are a million S13 SR swap/maintenance articles on the net.

How reliable does swapping ANY motor from a junkyard sound?

Yeah, the reliability sucks. Within the 3 years that I've had it, I've done clutch, brake pads and rotors, suspension, engine swap. Not because I wanted to right away, but because that all broke and I decided to upgrade while I was at it. The clutch on such an aging car is expected to fail soon, same with brakes and rotors. My suspension was completely garbage after 2 years, also expected. Broke two of those damn clutch fork pivots so far. My KA spun a bearing on my way to Radium. The odometer had 300K+ on it. Despite at that, I still loves my Chuki S13. You kinda REALLY have to love cars to love these things still.

Wow, you have bad luck or can't maintain your shit. Stop driving. No Toyota should fall apart like that. :|

My friend had a 240 that was such a POS. It was in the shop all the time for various things...clutch, brake master cylinder, lift valve tick...Eventually the turbo blew and he just decided to sell the damn thing.

Good looking car though.

Yeah a 240 without an sr20 is no 240 at all. Good call. No other motor works in that chassis, either.

You may find it tough to find an sr20 right now though, so close to race wars..
