Has anyone checked out their new album Anti-Mother?

I think what you meant was:

whiny/try-hard/changing-to-popularity/preachy/not-even-close-to-hardcore.

Learn your genres. ;)

And no, "christian hardcore" is not some of the best. In fact it's some of the worst.

Norma Jean is not crazy... they are the equivalent of listening to a drill for 45 minutes. IE. mind-numbing, boring headaches... and compared to some of the stuff I listen to, that's a hard feet to accomplish (giving me a headache from metal(core))

Suggested bands for further, BETTER listening. (Then Norma Jean/Underoath)

-Converge
-The Chariot
-Maylene and the Sons of Disaster (old underoath vocalist, the one that actually went on to make good music)
-The Gorgeous
-Every time I Die
-Architects
-Botch

Furthermore, save your money from this show and go to Carnifex / the Last Felony on March 17th at the Underground. Or Cattle Decapitation April 5th at the Warehouse.

Everything you said in that post was exactly "whiny/try-hard/changing-to-popularity/preachy/not-even-close-to-hardcore", so whats the problem here?

Those bands for the most part have a very different sound from most Christian hardcore bands... which I don't like (except Converge... Converge is awesome).

Go shit in someone else's thread.

Actually that band list was aimed more at fillers for Norma Jean, ie. Bands with talent. I'm not big into the whole styling of Christian hardcore so I have no fillers for Underoath, maybe He is Legend? or even I guess ETID works. Oh how about the Refused?

As for finding better bands then Christian hardcore, well any "post"- hardcore because they don't preach (except straight-edge) or associate religion (which I find has no place in music).

I'd rather shit in this thread where young kiddies are jizzing over shitty shit.

I'm not sure if I was whiny, more just "making fun of (not the fans, more the bands)" attitude. Was not try-hard that I know of, more just filling in the young kiddies with some more different bands then these 2 crap piles. Not sure how I was changing to popularity so that didn't make much sense. Preachy, maybe, if by preachy you mean I was influencing them to listen to better metalcore. I'm not sure if I was "not even close to hardcore" I'm not sure how that one works.

And what's wrong with Botch?

It was more the way you came into a thread about how people were stoked about a concert seemingly just to shit on everything.

I'm not particularly for or against religion in general, but I've never seen the problem with religion being in music... there are so many songs against religion (in metal/punk/hardcore at least), why not some about religion?

Norma Jean has never struck me as all that preachy...?

I'm just curious, what do you think of bands like Misery Signals or Parkway Drive? (similar style, but not religious)

norma jean sounds kind of amateur to me, like they recorded their album themselves with an old sanyo recorder on top of a garbage can in the garage of their parents house.

I'm not young lol
i dont like growly thrash metal where all they do is shred, just not into that kind of thing. I will listen to it, but would prefer many things over it.

I HATE religion, so much, i just honestly think christian hardcore bands are good! Post hardcore is just amazing.

You bestowing your opinion upon us isn't going to teach us what we should like, just what you like. It's ok to throw an opinon out as a suggestion but to come in here and just shit talk like that is a pretty faggety fuck move lol

I came into this thread because these bands are boring... simple as that. They apparently don't mind it, good for them, they are aroused by the simplest of smelly metalcore. I stated it's boring nature, then my severe dislike for bands who label themselves "Christian" -(insert genre here). Why not just use the (genre here)? It more bothers me they have to proclaim there religion as a part of the genre to separate themselves... Hell I don't mind some Christian bands, such as Impending Doom, Mortal Treason, MCMB etc etc, it just bothers me when the religion makes a whole separate genre, and furthermore the bands decide YEAH WE'RE TOTALLY CHRISTIAN (genre). Sing about some fake deity for all I care, just don't use it as a means to create a new genre then label yourselves as it, and certainly don't preach your religion to me mid-show (as underoath does). It's worse then Life Ruiner spouting our their straight edge awesomeness.

I wasn't calling Norma Jean preachy friend, was calling Underoath preachy. Norma Jean is just boring.

I wouldn't find Misery Signals or Parkway Drive TOO similar in style...Same base I guess, but to me they sound very different. Misery Signals are amazing, and have been for a long time, especially the bands members former bands 7 Angels 7 Plagues, and Compromise. Misery Signals would follow more along the lines of Shai Hulud, a fucking GREAT band too. Norma Jean started off ok and took a nose dive down shit mountain somewhere around O God the Aftermath... Parkway Drive is ok for what they do, playing the jud jud and not much else.

Again for similar styles to Norma Jean except GOOD, I would say Converge, The Tony Danza Tapdance Extravaganza, The Chariot, Botch, etc.

That's why I gave you a list of alternate listening, "growly thrash metal" (none of it was actually thrash, and I wouldn't say many thrash bands growl for that matter). Maylene and the Sons of Disaster, and Every Time I Die have more singing and lighter vocal styling then both Norma Jean and Underoath, but are twenty times the awesome.

STFU already. Are you making money touring on stage? Are you in a band that is known?

Any band that makes it somewhere will have people like you that will shit on them.

Mr. Genre man, keep your genres to yourself, or else continue to keep submitting them on wikipedia for the bands that you know on there.

Hahaha I also put in my very opinionated comments for dipshits like this fellow to get saucy and upset because he loves his Underoath. Yeah, anyone ever who makes a band will have people shit on them, so why are you getting all saucy that I am, when you apparently understand the cycle of being a shitty band, having success?

I don't really understand what a "Mr. Genre Man" is, but I do understand how stupid the concept of a religious genre is... so should you, unless you're the pants jizzer over "omfg kewl christin rawk cuz i finally gawt a genre of my own that spouts out kewl proverbs and valuable lessons!"

Actually I never once stated that I liked either band. I just don't see the point of bashing them or any band for that matter, saying that you don'tlike them is one thing, saying they are shitty is another.

As for bands spouting relgious stuff in music, why does it matter? Music is written about almost anything that people have strong feelings or opinions on. Why does it matter if religion is something they have strong feelings about?

Ie. Listen to Propaghandi "Dear Coach's Corner" something totally off kilter of most lyrics....

All I was saying is that for this being a thread about a show that is happening doesn't mean you have to barge in and shit on the band, far from being constructive in any sense.

P.S. Your Maple Leafs aren't doing so hot....... 2nd last in their division ouch.

240SX92
03-04-2009, 10:47 PM
Hahah you are pretty much right, but there are certain times when some bands cross that line, and move into the category of being able to call shitty. Underoath happens to be one of them, and while you're right about them being able to have religious beliefs in their music, as I don't often care about lyrics otherwise I wouldn't listen to half the shit I do, it just bothers me when they break out of that, and start spouting their religious beliefs between songs on young impressionable youth. It seems to me quite like a form of manipulation. Spouting religious shenanigans between songs is just as stupid as Life Ruiner claiming Straight Edge is the best lifestyle and spouting their filthy rubbish.

As for Norma Jean being boring, they are just plain boring. So is Underoath... That's not really opinion... it's just concrete science.

Hahha Yeah I've been a Leafs fan since I knew what Hockey is, and i'm not hopping on another bandwagon I stick with my team even though they are terrible. 67! 67! 67!

Oh boy 240SX92 you couldn't be more wrong. The more words you type the bigger fool you make yourself look like!

Underoath preechs nothing. They tell you what they beleive and if you dont think the same, thats cool. Almost those exact words Ive personally heard them say more then once.

Liferuiner is a joke you fucking idoit they dont actually beleive that.

And Im not sure why your opinion makes something concrete science.

240SX92
03-04-2009, 11:14 PM
Because A) You don't understand fun simple jokes.

And B) You spread filthy lies as I've had the unfortunate pleasure to see both these crummy bands live, and have had my ears tainted by their crummy musicianship coupled with there filthy spreading of christianity. But last time I saw them was about 2-3 years ago, and about 5 years ago before that, so perhaps they have smartened up and stopped the preachyness... They still make shitty music.

and C) Liferuiner is a tremendous joke yes I agree, and I honestly don't know what they did after Johnny OC left so after that time you might be right, but before that time, I'm from the East and have seen Liferuiner an UNFORTUNATE amount of times, much like said crummy bands, and know for a fact they preach the shit out of straight edge and enforce it on others (in a very serious manner). Also knowing former members who quit due to this fact helps my conclusion.

Also, they are a joke because their musicianship is worse then Underoath / Norma Jean, a hard feet to accomplish.

Hahah it's also jokes some of you take my opinion so seriously. If anything you're making my opinion matter more by getting all steamed up, making it bother you.

mazda_maniac
03-05-2009, 08:33 AM
Oh your opinion doesn't bother me, its just where and how you voice it that annoys me. You can think whatever you want about whatever band, ultimately I'll decide wether I like a band or not. But to come into a forum stating when a live show is, then be as ignorant as you? I wouldn't trust you opinion on any band.

Oh and by the way my opinion is ultimately concrete

240SX92
03-05-2009, 08:57 AM
Not ignorant, ignorant implies a lack of knowledge on the subject (you can argue all you want on that, but you would be incorrect), I think you ment arrogant... I beg to differ, but that's your opinion ;)

I think I more came in here with the shitty attitude when I saw the thread title as "SHIT DOG. (shitty bands coming here)" That just rang the warning bells of as I stated earlier little kiddies jizzing over shitty shit.

And see? Someone has a sense of humor.

I still disagree with you attitude but I will say I do prefer 18+ shows. Ie. When Silverstein came through last year and Protest the Hero was one of the Opening acts it was ridiculas. I was getting A&W and Rody was getting food at the vendor right next to it.... not a single person even seemed to know who he was...

I also went mainly for Protest, dear lord is Luke Hoskin good, actually the whole band is amazing.

Dwp was pretty good, I just felt their stag act was TOO rehearsed.. all swinging their guitars at the same tim and everything. I do however feel they overuse breakdowns hahaha.

If you enjoy breakdowns, listen to Carnifex. They are here March 18th. Some of the best in the business.

And mosh, silverstein? :banghead:

Also noted good breakdown infested bands that you may like (don't take this as an attack, just suggestions if you choose to care):

August Burns Red
Emmure
Misery Signals
Suicide Silence
The Acacia Strain
Veil Of Maya
The Ghost Inside.

What's musical about it? How about everything? Just because vocal patterns are different then what you're used to doesn't mean it's not musical... and just because you can't gather complex instrument work (perhaps stick to Theory of a Nicklefault?) doesn't mean it's not musical.

I love when people say "it's just noise..." it's like grandparents trying to work a computer. "OMG I DON'T UNDERSTAND THIS THEREFORE IT'S RUBBISH, SATANIC HIPPY RUBBISH"

It sounds pretentious, but I personally could only listen to the radio when I was 13, and listen to the same garbage spit out over and over before I started looking for something different. Cue, complex instruments+vocal styling that tends to detract people like you so I don't have to deal with your smelly ignorant remarks. (mine before were arrogant, this oaf's were ignorant)

Did lol.

As for the mosh and Silverstein comment, those two don't fit together well. Might as well mosh to Yellowcard. you want some serious mosh hit a cannibal corpse show in april, or on the other side of the mosh spectrum, an Acacia Strain / Misery Signals show.

You can disagree my friend, but your ignorance is through the roof and simply disgusts me.

I'd take that as a compliment (emo) if you actually knew what it ment, and weren't using it in a generally negative connotation.

Here's a history lesson, (to spoil your river of ignorance that flows through every one of your posts). The real emo term was made for bands such as Embrace, Saetia, Rites of Spring, Fugazi in the late 80's/early 90's. Was made for the hardcore bands who simply wanted to add more then speed to their music. The hardcore kids who listened to it were some of the meanest mother fucker's around, who also were known to just dress in jeans and white t shirts with shaved heads, not the flippy hair of todays "emo" youth.

Also in your use of emo I hardly think a guy wearing Seven Jeans and a Converge shirt and an Ion Dissonance hat qualifies under that. Unless you were calling me emotional, in which case yeah, i'm emo, much like you and everyone else in this world who has any simple form of reaction to any given action. Sociopaths maybe not?

Did not mean to imply that if that's what you took from it. More so that most people can't understand the complex musical aspect because they look for simplicity they are comfortable with... where mainstream music derives it's fans from. I'm also talking about certain bands I recommended, no comment on the Underoath part.

By having a calm discussion over a forum about how ignorant you are? Do you have some sort of text-to-emotion super reading computer of fantasy? That's not really a sensitive dork, more of a guy who knows what he's talking about putting some "holier then thou" douchebag in his simplistic boring place.

If you'd like I can give you a call right now and you can hear how i'm laughing through this whole thing like I usually do via internet forum discussions (like earlier in this thread) with guys who complain about "chewy chicken." Take out your tampon, stomach the chicken, then drop the 200$ tab so you can feel like you're higher then the "emo's" of society.

the show was fucking awesome. I too went right to the front of the pit at the beginning of Norma Jean to the end of Underoath! I almost caught Aarons drum stick! But didnt feel like fighting 50 crazy-insane kids for it..

What's skillful about what you do on screen? I have a hard time calling that acting. :poosie:

It's all a matter of opinion my man. And no matter how much you don't want to start a "flame war" you know very well opinions are what start them haha... But i am jealous of your AM that's for sure.

Huh? You're NOT getting emotional? Quite the rant.

No need to type novels cause I don't like your music.

I have a hard time writing in tiny, grammatically incorrect paragraphs like 12 years old girls.

My bad.

Is this better?

Friend-o?

I don't care that you don't like my music, enjoy whatever you want, it does not affect me. But when you say it's not music and is just noise, that's pretty ridiculous, and again, ignorant.

That's the only reason I responded in the first place.

Now is this typing helping you?

Any better?

Or can I go back to typing like I was taught to. In well thought out points that take up as long as I have to till I get my personal opinion and side across. I majored in Communications and English, therefore I appreciate a good discussion, (without ignorance) and appreciate proper use of language in said discussions. Or does that make me an "emo who rants" because I type proper, and happen to elongate sentences.

I have absolutely no problem with anything but your ignorance. But in reality, that's your problem, and it gives me something to argue about, which I enjoy.

Again, please don't take this as an "emo rant." More of me laughing at my desk at work because i'm bored, the cause of most e-arguments.

I find it hilarious that you have taken so much out of your day...you MUST be bored...perhaps a change of career is necessary?

Maybe you could write songs. :D

I think rap isn't msucial, its a black guy talking about how much money he has with a beat that he bought of a talented person. any band where actual instruments are used to me is musical. I listen to pretty much everything but have gotten tired of rap and all the shit all the gangstas and people who think they are cool listen to.

This is more music than most shit out there, i do not like the bands in question at all but they get more respect from me than 50 cent and lil wayne.

You guys ar ridiculas, ZorroAMG if you don't like screaming music thn GTFO of this thread. You obviously knew who Underoath was before you opened it, why come in here trying to say your music sucks.

Who gives a fuck.

I enjoy almost all music and respect them all the same, and what both of you are doing is fucking hilarious. Are we eleventeen? I'm guessing you judge people on looks too eh?

I'll see you at Lamb of God, ZorroAMG I know you'll be there. HAHA

Oh by the way guys that like music like this, if you like breakdowns, check out the creakdown in the "declaration" by Bleeding through. Sooooo good.

Calgary show was sweet. Unfortunately Norma Jean sounded better. Underoath came in with their big, bad loud sound but it seemed as if they sacrificed some sound quality for volume. Either way, I had a blast, but was again dissapointed by lack of new songs.. they played a mix of everything. I wanted to hear more new shit.

Even more of a blast when my buddy and I met them outside their tour bus. Met everyone but James... they all hung out for as long as they could in the weather, signed some of our shit, took some pics. Rad time, awesome dudes! Finding a tour bus at mac hall was a breeze.

Hahah Bleeding Through was one of my intros to this type of music back when I saw them with Himsa at Sun center on headbangers... must have been close to 5 or 6 years ago. Have seen them every chance I got which is close to 5 times now. Don't even particularly enjoy them anymore but I still go because I respect what they did for me! If you like that breakdown, I believe it's love in slow motion off of the truth has a massive one, and I believe Revenge I seek has a massive one that Brandan Schiepatti pulled me on stage for to help him sing along in Banff couple years ago. Always a fun time with those dudes.

I'm still going to recommend for people who love breakdowns to come to the Carnifex show at the underground March 18th, exactly a week from today that show is going to own.

Hahah I have a few shirts similar, a First Blood (btw the KINGS of hardcore breakdown), that says First Fucking Blood, and a Whitechapel shirt that says "Fucked and Left for Dead" I have to choose when the right time is to wear those shirts. Certainly not to work.

Hhaha as for that death fuckin metal shirt, it's kind of a joke because they aren't death metal, but oh well. I need a carnifex hoody so I might end up with it... Last Felony is playing too, they fucking rule... Gabe from ex-Ion Dissonance does vocals on their new CD, which rules because Gabe is the man.

Haha I thought about the 'Fucked and left for dead' white chapel.

But ended up with the 'and now you rot'

If I had thought about it I probably would've realized I can only wear it 2 days of the week... which was pretty stupid.

But it's a damn sweet shirt so i'm not regretting it. Haha
