Only places I have been are Australia and NZ.

Perth, Margaret River, Gold Coast, Noosa, Byron Bay, Bondi, Manley, etc.

I have always, always wanted to hit up South Africa. Other place I want to get to are Bali, Brazil, and Hawaii.

Was just in Indonesia and went surfing in Bali, they have starting areas like Kuta all the way up to 15 foot waves in Uluwatu beach.

Yeh, the surf is arguably the best in the world.

Its not really situated close to anything crazy, just a small town with lots of condo rentals along the beach.

Its only a 40min drive to Honolulu though.

Here is a great site, this guy shoots a lot of North Shore stuff.

Ok so I grew up around the ocean and I can skim with the best of em. I can swim like a fish...I want to take up surfing but how do you get over the feeling of knowing sharks can and are most likely swimming under you when you're far out to sea...I would love to pick this up as well but can't get over the mental block which is my fear of well whats swimming under me???...Sorry it's not a location like you were looking but have always wondered how people get over that while surfing cuz I'd love to be able to try it since I know i'd pick it up quickly.

On the topic of surfing....checkout a documentary called "Bustin Down The Door". Great movie that talks about what it took to make this pastime into an actual SPORT.

Dude , if you think about , shark attacks are very rare and happen usually in bad situations.. When I was surfing in Aussie , we had a shark go under us , he did nothing , it was just a biggg fucking shadow under us... It was scary at first , but he was just checking us out.. Nothing happened.

If you go to beaches , you will probably not see a shark at all. Shark nets are in place in most areas and helecopters and life guards usually check for sharks around the area (Thats what they did on the Gold Coast)... So dude , just try it , its such a big rush!

Oh and ps. most sharks that take bites off people are cold water sharks and stay in cold water... usually sharks in hot locations are veggie type sharks and couldnt care less about people.

Did you ever get to check out Jaws in Hawaii? Im not sure what island that is , but that would be the coolest (and dangerous) waves to see... Even if they are tow outs.

Also heres some pic of my backyard when i was in the gold coast.
